I have been using these the last few years with my kids and have been super impressed. I have used the preschool to kindergarten, 1st to 2nd grade, and 2nd grade to 3rd. My favorite thing about these work books are that they can be fast and simple lessons that usually take about 15 minutes or less to do. The other thing I like is they aren’t just math or reading. Each day they mix in several different concepts. I feel that way the kids don’t get overwhelmed with a subject or concept they might struggle with. It also GRADUALLY gets a little more difficult each day. So by the time summer is over they are being introduced to things that they will learn for the next year. They also come with flash cards that are made of good card stock to work on concepts like: letters, shapes, numbers, telling time, multiplication, divide, and other concepts that are age appropriate. There are small stickers at the back that the kids can put on their page after they are done that are just small stars. There is also a parent key at the back to check if the kid’s work is correct. I’m not going to lie I have used! :) Overall these have been great. The hardest thing I have struggled with is just being consistent and making sure they try and do them each day. When used these are fabulous!
These arrived in a timely manner. Each book for this grade 1-2 level has 3 sections. Some of the topics covered are reading comprehension, time, phonics, language arts and grammar, addition, counting, geometry, subtraction, problem solving, and other topics. Each page is perforated and can come out. The book has 3 sections, and 30 days of pages to complete. The book seems to be a good review during the summer for topics covered during their 1st grade school year. Some areas seem to be a bit more advanced; so I believe this will help prepare for next year in grade 2. For example: instead of simply counting by tens with 10, 20, 30, etc. the math problem may be to breakdown the number 393. So; 393 is matched to "three hundreds, nine tens, and three ones."
This was a good workbook for my post-1st grader. She had in person school for most of the year, but for limited days at first, and after 15 months of disrupted school followed by a household move to a more challenging school, I wanted to make sure she was a little more prepared academically.
Immediately we were able to see where the gaps in her learning vs. the expected 1st grade curriculum were, and the book gave us a tool to start filling those in bit by bit over the summer. I think she still has a challenging year ahead of us, but this workbook helped her from sliding backwards, taught her some new things, and in general let us feel much better about the nearly 4 month summer break that resulted from moving to an area on a different school calendar.
The work was definitely challenging for her, but manageable. It was probably 10-15 minutes of work per day if she focused and did it. There were complaints about summer work, and I found the best thing was to just keep a consistent time and expectation, 7 days/week.
This is the second summer I've bought these books. I've tried several brands and these have been the most helpful! Each day mixes some easy lessons with more challenging ones. Do they love to do workbooks? Not really...but they at least enjoy using the provided stickers when finishing a lesson (a little box is provided at the bottom of each lesson).
Excellent workbook! Will be buying every summer for my kids. I wish they had a ready for PreK book. I love that it gives the kids physical activities as well as written ones. The activities might take longer if you have twins like me or one that needs extra help reading the directions. Otherwise, it shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes to complete the two pages a day. I’m only making mine “work” for 30 minutes. If they finish all four activities, they get a sticker. If they don’t, they don’t get one. They’re also earning stars (on our reward chart) if they do their pages with fuss.
I love the Summer Bridging Workbooks. We have used them for several years with all three of our daughters. They help keep children on grade level throughout the summer with short activities completed each day. The workbooks follow educational guidelines so children are using what they learned during the school year. I would definitely recommend them.
We use these over the summer for review. It’s one page a day and takes the kids less than 10min to finish it. It also has a suggested reading list that my kids couldn’t wait to start. We are so busy over summer with baseball, dance, beach and friends that this is the perfect amount of review each day to keep them from forgetting things they learned but not so much that they aren’t able to enjoy the summer day. This is our second year buying these instead of the expensive ones from the schoolbox and I prefer these!
