To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we do not use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Only 30% of the book is devoted to coffee roasting, the topic of the title. It just gives an out-of-date, superficial introduction to concepts. It is not a handbook in any sense. There is one page with a diagram showing the general idea of time and temperature changes during coffee roasting. That's it.
Nobody could roast any coffee using this "handbook".
A handbook should give a lot of practical information that you can reference while you are getting something accomplished. This fails completely.
A better title would have been "A Beginners Overview of Coffee, Roasting Concepts, and Tasting"
This book is full of interesting coffee facts making it an enjoyable read for any java aficionado even if you're not a serious roaster. As an example, I never really understood the difference between a City Roast and a French Roast, but Mr. Brault gives clear descriptions of the different stages of the roasting process and their relationship to the finished product.
Awesome read, especially for a beginner getting into roasting their own coffee. It was easy to read and very informative. I hate to have to give it a 4 star, but it left out a very crucial part to coffee, the grind.
If you want to learn everything about coffee. This book is for you!! I am exploring roasting my own small batch coffee. This book is quite technical and frankly made it intimidating (having to consider roasting emissions and risk of fires!). It is a great book and I learned a ton about coffee, even if I never get brave enough to roast some!
The best way you can start out at home roasting. This book got me excited and ready to start roasting my own coffee. I now make the best possible coffees. The information is very clear and the book is interesting and easy to follow. Must read for beginners.
Bought this book to understanding the steps of coffee from the growing to roasting and all the way to the final cup. This book was very easy reading the Arthor you can tell has a deep knowledge and passion for coffee. Highly recommend buying
