This book is one of the best I've ever read on how to master the watercolour medium. It is so clear in every way from explaining how to mix simple colours to how to tackle perspective and lighting effects. His mastery of the medium is evident in these pages which are well written and photographed. No need to look further than this book if you are setting out on the watercolour journey.
You can hardly find a more judiciously built learning / instructional material when it comes to watercolor - and on the market, hey, you can really find some very good ones! All the questions you might find asking yourself regarding watercolor gets a good answer here. This no-nonsense beautiful book with a high quality print and an elegant bind (and the cover has such a nice feel too) is becoming a favorite of mine as it is a... mine of watercolor knowledge gems even for a slightly more advanced beginners. The progression through the book and learning process is so natural that you might even not realize you ARE becoming better at this. Fabulous work from a more than friendly and entertaining instructor - just watch his videos on youtube and, oh, BUY HIS BOOK!!! I mean, this book!
This book has very easy instructions to follow while learning to do watercolour painting, especially like the little photographs to show the relevant stages and techniques explained. Good explanations given to help choosing equipment and paints. Did not realise there are various techniques one can use to create textures to make watercolour pictures interesting.
I am new to art and have read this book from cover to cover and the information is brilliant. Am going to work my way through the tutorials. Great buy even if you are not an absolute beginner I bought the other book shown with this one and I cannot find where to leave a review, but it too was exceptionally useful and full of very good information
I have a few art books and this is one of the best for beginners. Simple materials and step by step instructions. I especially liked the techniques of lifting out with the brush, using the end of the brush for scraping and giving the drying times. Never really knew those. Recommend to all beginners to try and enjoy this most unpredictable medium!
I would recommend this book for the beginner and also for the more experienced watercolour artist. It never hurts to remind yourself of the tips and tactics that are here described. I like the fact that actual trade names were recommended for paper, paint, and brushes. Lots of other tutorial books shy away from specifics like this, so well done Mr Clark. This book does not patronise, nor does it assume prior knowledge. A good buy, and one to keep for future reference.
Very happy with this book. I've bought watercolour paints, etc but a bit scared of them as never know where to start and always seem to make a mess, which makes me 😠 😡 This book and author's YouTube channel have changed that. He starts from the beginning for the total beginner in a very easy, accessible way. I like that I can watch the some of the lessons, along with lots of other 'how to' content as I find this creates extra depth. He has a very light hearted, uncomplicated and humorous approach. Finally, I'm seeing results in my painting
I found this book when I had just about given up on watercolours. Paul Clark is a teaching genius and his YouTube channel has superb tutorials that compliment this book - and more. My paint box is no longer a source of trepidation and disappointment. Now it is fun to learn. The book is well written and beautifully illustrated and the projects are realistically achievable. I am so pleased I gave it a go.
I bought this book after meeting Paul in person and receiving some tuition from him, and it is an excellent foundation for anyone just starting out in watercolour painting. He covers the important basics in detail, including the required materials, colour theory and drawing, and proceeds with clear step by step instructions, with illustrations for each stage. I can highly recommend this as a handbook for getting started and to return to again and again.
As a beginner I am finding this book very helpful. There is so much information about brush strokes, washes, colour mixing, materials and equipment, the importance of understanding the basic principles of drawing . . . . and most importantly, I think, clear, easy to understand instructions. I can’t wait to get started! Thank you Paul Clark for this wonderful book 😊 📖 🎨
