To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we do not use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
A very good primer on tech industry and innovative business strategies that drive the digital world. Provides an overview of existing and emerging technologies and products, and their implications for the users - both good and not-so-good.
It is, however, only an overview with limited technical details.
Its written in a creative and engaging way - for readers from within or outside the tech industry.
Summary perspectives on many technologies and companies comprising the tech revolution underway today. Depending on your background (mine being tech), you will likely find more or less of the volume informative. For me, about 1/4th to 1/3rd was informative. However, I appreciate the manner of presentation for the rest of the topics also: Concise, to-the-point, and hitting the nail-on-the-head. A very good book.
+ Pros In general, I enjoyed reading the book, because it's written in an easy format and with small chunks of knowledge. It explains in simple language, all the major aspects of technology with a smooth flow. I highly recommend it for people that have limited knowledge of technology or are from a different background. The book covers a big spectrum of topics in a logical manner and at the same time, you can read those topics independently from one another. Also, the authors have included a huge number of references that you can use to dig deeper into and continue from there.
- Cons To give you some context, I have a technical background and small working experience. From the online description of the book, I expected to gain a lot of insights and understand in-depth technology and product management. Instead, I found myself bored and skipping pages because many topics were basic and trivial. Secondly, at the end of the book authors say that they will give for free a 79$ interview guide if you write a review on Amazon. This is smart and makes sense, but without clarification, it might affect customers to write biased reviews.
Overall, it's a great book for introducing those topics. I put 4 stars instead of 5 because I was expecting more depth based on the book description.
Update: I contacted the authors and they explained that they have updated the phrasing regarding the free guide to avoid biased reviews. And that they are using it as way to get honest feedback and improve their books, which is great.
This Book is Good to read for Aspiring Product Managers as well as for New Product Managers. It explains each and every technology a Product Manager should be knowing. It explains the concepts very clearly such that even non-CS Background people can also understand.
3 Key Takeaways from this Book are: 1. This book explains each concept succinctly and leaves you with that feeling of thought provoking to do furthermore research and understand the thing in more depth 2. The Chapters are structured in a very well manner. As you learn new concepts from the chapters, these are connected back in the subsequent chapters thus helping understand more about those concepts 3. Very interesting cases are provided to explain each concept, which helps in absorbing the concepts
Waiting for the book SACRED SEVEN to be available in India
The first half of the book is a bit slow for readers with a technical background or anybody who keeps up with recent developments in tech. The second half is much more interesting and shares insights into the thinking behind some big-name acquisitions. Would recommend to those with a technical background just because of the later chapters. I'm sure the first half would be interesting for some people as well.
This book is a good starter to understand technology trends and concepts as well as strategies used by different tech companies. It also offers a global view and not only US market. What I liked is that it inspired me to rethink some of our companies strategic decisions and how to tackle the future.
