Embarrassingly lightweight for the most part. Four page chapters about anecdotes about Joe Biden deciding to run for president- that is not what i bought this book for & not what it was advertised to be about. Dont waste your time- the four important occurrences were reported on news programs, this not what i expect from a respected journalist. I dont think I'm even going to bother to finish it.
To say that this is slanted journalism would be an understatement, if this can be called journalism at all. Many testimonies are are cited to support Woodward and Costa’s version of events but every single assertion included about President Trump happens somehow to be negative while many opponents of his are credited enormously and unduly in text just for engaging in even the most routine of affairs. Totally one sided narrative that lacks even the barest shred of impartiality necessary for a true understanding of what happened in Washington during the period covered. I’m too young to speak on Bob Woodward’s past resume of reporting on current events, but if the ubiquitous praised he once received was ever actually deserved then it is certainly not on display here as he has either some personal complex against Trump or vested interest in placating the corporate media. I don’t want to read left wing advocacy anymore than I do right wing advocacy but whatever the case, this is not real journalism. Fake journalism, Fake News.
The change of power from Trump to Biden is a fascinating time in American history. I had hoped that this book would be a factual representation of that historic period without partisan bias. It was obvious even in the prologue that that would not be the case for this book. If you hate Trump and are looking for confirmation in your already-held beliefs, you’ll love this book. If you are looking for a factual, unbiased, behind-the-scenes story of the transfer of power, look elsewhere.
This is a very one sided disgusting book. Right off the bat these two men are trashing Trump and glorifying Biden. I understand why "leaders" did not know what to think of President Trump. Our leaders for years have been about themselves and not the people. A man comes along that is about the people and they did not know what to think. The book starts off talking about Biden in glowing terms and people I closed the book and am returning it.
After reading the first few chapters I couldn't believe the people in charge of our country, the elected , by the people, speak and act like this. I was disgusted. I couldn't finish the book. I returned it. Woodward has truly sunk to a new low. I am so ashamed of Pelosi and her ilk. Pitiful. Not worth the paper it's printed on.
If you’ve been following the news at all in the last four years, you will not be surprised by anything in this book. It basically rehashes news stories and cable news talking points. Nothing new, nothing insightful. Just the same old Trump is unhinged (wow really?), Biden likes details and has been affected a lot by his family (gosh, interesting), kind of stuff.
