I love this thing so much! If you haven’t cooked with cast-iron before, take the “pre-seasoned“ with a grain of salt. That just means you don’t have to do the whole high temperature baking and crisco seasoning part. I have several cast-iron Lodge skillets that I’ve had for many years. At first when you buy them you can’t cook an egg on them without it sticking without using a lot of oil (I tried... even with oiling it stuck)... don’t worry, with repeated use and proper care they become very non-stick!
I’ve seen the advice not to use soap but really you can use enough to get it clean, then just cook off the excess water and give it a nice rub down with a high smoke point oil. Honestly I don’t even have to do that step with my older cast iron! We cooked some burgers on it after the egg experiment and then (after washing/ oiling) made these pancakes (using butter). It worked beautifully and cooked way more evenly than my skillets do. This was definitely worth the money to me!
I use my griddle on the BBQ. It is awesome. It captures all the grease that used to fall on the burners causing flare ups, so no more flare ups. It cleans fairly easily with nothing more than hot water & a hard plastic scraper sold by Lodge & specifically designed to fit the contours of the griddle.
This griddle states that it’s induction stove top quality which is not ... it is not a flat surface the metal does not rest on the elements there’s a ridge around the griddle so it does not work well for the induction cooktop it will destroy your induction cooktop
We have used it over the fire while camping to cook bacon or kabobs and it works great! I also use it on my glass top oven over 2 elements to make the best tasting fajitas! Fajitas cooked in a regular frying pan cannot compare with flavour! I just recently used the grill to cook filet mignon steaks because our bbq is broken and the steaks were amazing! They tasted like they had been done on a bbq but with the taste of being cooked on cast iron. Definitely would purchase again. I would recommend purchasing a brush to clean the cast iron grill for easy cleanup. Also after washing my grill I smear oil on it so it doesn't rust.
use this on my Primus camping stove (fits perfectly - covering the elements and preventing stove splatter) as well as a home BBQ. does burgers, eggs, bacon, pancakes flawlessly. just wipe down with paper towel after and the dishes are done!
Its harder to clean a new cast iron anything but with time and more seasoning I know it’ll be fine. I’ve owned many lodge pieces over the years and this one looks to be just up to the same timeless quality. Easily fits across two burners on my stove but I may preheat in the over for even heat distribution and maintenance over the two burners otherwise the middle is super slow to heat.
Terrific on our gas range. I've used this griddle to make pancakes, fry bacon, make smashburgers, grill steak and sear eggplant for a vegetarian lasagna. It worked extremely well in every case and cleaned fairly easily, even when I'd made a big mess adding steak sauce and cheese while grilling burgers. The heat seems to be distributed very evenly, too. Large enough for four good-sized pancakes or burger patties at once.
