The unit was awesome when we first purchased this Jan 2020. We have a small Pasture Raised Meat Chicken business that we seal cut up chicken parts on a small scale, most of our sales are whole birds which we shrink wrap. I estimate we sealed 450 times per 75 birds maybe 5-6 times last year. We used the recommended package material and I was also weighing product and writing labels so there was plenty of time between seals. This month I changed the copper looking tape over the heat strip because it was wrinkled. We started our first batch for parts a 2 weeks ago and early in the process I heard a soft pop sound. Then the heat strip stopped working. We thought it might be the fuse so we changed that, but in reality the vacuum was still working so it wasn't the fuse. We ended up using our old GameSaver from Walmart to finish the job. We were 6 days outside of the 1 year warranty! So I called, no one is in the call center due to Covid. So I sent an email. I received a quick response but was told the heat strip is not a warranty item. They were kind enough to send a link to the part I needed to order, but its out of stock. Very disappointed, we spent over $400.00 on the Weston PRO 2300 COMMERCIAL GRADE vacuum sealer.
Opening the box, I was impressed. In the year since, I'm even more impressed. It just works! Every time! No fussing around with the bags to eliminate wrinkles before clamping, just put your bag on the sealing surface, set the sealing lid down, and turn it on. I like that it doesn't really clamp, but rather just the weight of the lid plus the suction clamps it shut. One less step, more convenience. And I love that I can seal big roasts in the bigger bags for sous vide. I love it and have recommended to my friends.
I have 2 Pro 2300 that have been top of the line. The one I’ve had for 11 years finally died. I ordered this one to replace it. It was advertised as new with a damaged package. The unit I received was very obviously used. It was dirty from use and was worn. It had been used for some time before it was returned and sold to me as new.
I buy all of our meats in bulk and was tired of spending $80+ every year on a new vacuum sealer when mine would wear out. A friend bought this same one (she uses it like I use mine) and said she's had great luck with it. Man oh man this thing has good suction! I have used it three times so far: 1) 40# chicken breast, 2) six 5# prime ribs, 3) 30# bacon. It hasn't missed a beat yet. It is heavy and bulky but it's completely worth it all for how great it has done so far. I just ordered 40# of chicken thighs and 20# of breakfast sausage to pick up next month and I don't anticipate problems.
