This was a Christmas present and has been in heavy use since we finished the turkey at New Year's, so 4 weeks in total. The alligator worked very well, cutting everything from hard sweet potatoes to soft tomatoes, as advertised. The grid helps with the cleaning though tiny little bits do tend to get caught -- but no big deal.
However, one of the little legs snapped off yesterday during normal use -- this should really not happen in a "professional grade" £90 device and certainly not after 4 weeks. From now on it will wobble and scratch surfaces if we can continue to use it. The window for return is just closed, of course. Very disappointed.
The product build and quality is very good. It does what it claims but has some caveats. Two important ones are: 1. The smallest knife piece gets veggies like ginger and onion stuck in between the knife. This also makes it difficult to clean. 2. If you have just one small piece of a vegetable you may be faster chopping it with a knife than setting up the chopper with the relevant knife and supporting pieces. 3. One of the plastic pieces slightly bulged when washed in the dishwasher. It isn’t an issue so far but hope it doesn’t deteriorate further. Thanks
Very expensive and horrible product. I figured if I spent a a lot of money on what was considered a high-end item in the chopper world. This product under performed. The container which holds vegetables or whatever you decide to chop very hard to put on and a lot of times pops off when you close so basically every time you use it it always falls off. The only thing I could say good about this project is it is very sturdy..... after getting a hold of the company which cells is product they stood behind their product and give me a full refund. For that reason alone I would give that company another chance at another one of their products anybody that stands behind their product and is willing to give their customers a full refund to make customers happy is solid in my book
This product is made like a tank. Very well made and sharp. The unit is fairly heavy which gives a little help in the chopping process. The blades are designed to only fit one way. Virtually unbreakable. Now for the cons. The top piece holding the cutter is awkward to pick up because there are two pieces of rubber on the sides keeping pressure on the top piece and making it difficult to open up. It's almost impossible to hold the vegetables to cut them length-wise into fries or strips. The problem with the vegetables going up into the container is especially noticeable with tomatoes. The juice drips down out of the cup and onto the counter. Finally - too many pieces.. I really wanted to like this unit but it was harder to clean, to use and not worth the money. Back to the good old Vidalia Onion Chopper.
My husband's an avid cook, and we went through a number of plastic vegetable choppers before I finally got him this steel one for Christmas. It's now his favorite tool in the kitchen. Not only is the Alligator chopper a whole lot sturdier, it's got more chop size options and is well-designed for easy cleaning and storage.
I hunted for something to help me cut up tiny dog training treats (to use with the dogs at the shelter) after spending untold hours chopping meat, cheese, and larger dog treats with a knife. I haven't tried it yet with all the things I use for training but the treats I routinely cut up for my own dog came out of the Alligator in perfect little cubes in seconds! Easy to clean afterward, too!
I am very pleased with this chopper. I have had other choppers, which were mostly plastic. This stainless chopper is very stable, sturdy, and proficient. I recommend this very veritable chopper to anyone who cooks.
