For most of our lives we've suffered from flimsy juice pressers. They break.
When we were on vacations in New Orleans nearly a decade ago, we went to a bar and saw the barman using one of these. It was impressive. The barman told us that he'd bought it himself because it was so much better than the average. We bought one when we got home.
We've had if for nine years and it's excellent. It really makes squeezing lemons and limes easy because it has a long fulcrum and you can apply a lot of pressure on the lemon. It's very robust which means it's not likely to break. It's probably the best kitchen utensil we have.
Of course, it is more expensive than most other squeezers, but you save money over time (no need to replace flimsy models so frequently). However, it is rather large and takes up more cupboard space that simpler models. It's also easy to clean.
After reading many reviews on squeezers I decided to splash out. I’m not disappointed this juicer has a good lever action which makes operation much easier for those of us getting on in years. It’s body is made from a high quality hard dishwasher proof plastic with a metal chrome plated squeezer all well made and put together. Great for use with both lemons and limes, ok with small oranges but you need to cut up larger ones. Very handy for cooking when you need that squeeze of lemon. Worth the money
I cook a lot of Mexican food and I also like the occasional Margarita. That means I get through a lot of limes.
Previously I've used one of the reamer style juicers - they work well but they're messy and you can't separate out any pips.
The Freshforce Citrus Juicer is better than the reamer - you cut your fruit in half, pop it in the indented cup of the juicer, then squeeze the handles together. The juice falls through perforations in the cup area and all but the smallest pips are held there.
My big worry with this juicer, in advance of receiving it, was whether it would be sturdily constructed. It is. I can't see it developing any stress breakages on the hinge, or elsewhere, in a long while.
I gave it a proper running in on New Year's Eve. 30 limes were turned into a litre of lime juice in about 20 minutes, without suffering from an aching arm or sticky fingers.
One caveat - its sturdiness means that it's not a small item. The arms in particular are quite bulky, so be aware that it will take up quite a bit of cupboard / drawer space.
Filters pips reasonably good, use of grip reasonably easy, very sturdy and well made. Lemons, cut in half, fit reasonably well but too small for half oranges. Doesn't squeeze all of the juice, my old style glass squeezer is more efficient in this respect, but not so good at filtering pips, the jury is still out for me on this one
After surfing the internet for a week looking for a decent citrus juicer, I can now say with confidence that nothing can beat this thing. Juicing lemons with this thing is a pleasure, and although I wouldn't recommend it for the casual juicer, I would definitely recommend buying it if juicing one or more lemon at the time is your goal, as no other product will squeeze them as well as this one.
A friend recommended these and I'm so glad they did. I drink much more water now as I squeeze a lime or lemon into sparkling. I find normal water boring so don't hydrate like I should. Very good quality, very sturdy and easy to clean daily.
I purchased this in May 2015 (time of review is August 2020). I've made hundreds and hundreds of cocktails with this thing by now and it still works just as well as the day I got it - meaning a pretty great yield of juice from each half lemon/lime.
Meanwhile the cheaper lemon squeezer I bought before this died within a couple weeks.
Perhaps I got lucky compared to other reviewers but to me I have zero complaints and this is a fantastic product.
