I had 4 of these over a year, all stopped working, as they really are meant for very light use. They can't take a good use cycle. One had a sensor stp working, one got so hot it was smoking & I had to put it outside incase it caught fire, the third got jammed up, the fourth had intermittant sensor problems. If your a light use it works great, with maybe 5 sheets max. But if you are a heavy user you need something better. That said the pull out drawer on wheels was great.
I had three Fellowes DS-1 Cross Cut Shredders and I bought this shredder to replace one of those which broke after 9 years use. This shredder is quieter but it is much poorer quality. To empty it you have to lift off the top and put it down somewhere spilling shredded paper. The box containing the shredded paper is very flimsy and you have to be careful not to break it. Also I found it a bit wide for emptying easily into a black bag. It is also very difficult to see shredded paper level. Unfortunately the much sturdier Fellowes DS-1 Cross Cut Shredder is not available now, it had sturdier metal slide out bin which let you see the paper level and did not spill shredded paper everywhere. Only advantages of the new shredder is that it is quieter and cheaper
This was an ideal shredder for my home use as it did everything particularly the 20 minute running time before it got too warm. Unfortunately only cut an A4 sheet to test the machine but to my horror the strips were too long. My old Fellowes MS-450c without knowing is a micro shredder. For security purposes this was not fit for the job. Very disappointed with Fellowes thinking. Why not make it micro so had to return it next day. Thanks to Amazon was refunded same day after collection. I always have had a lot of faith in Amazon service and continue to do so.
I have previously bought and liked Fellowes shredders. This one shreds satisfactorily, but the bucket fills up fast and it is very inconvenient to empty. My previous Fellowes shredder had a wire basket you could pull out and empty easily. With this, you have to lift the metal lid which incorporates all the heavy machinery of the shredder. It's very heavy and a strain on the back unless you are extremely careful. Definitely a backwards step in design terms.
The paper draw does not sit snuggly so doesn't always engage correctly meaning the 'open door' light comes on. The feet are very difficult to insert into the base unit. The operating buttons on the top of the unit are flimsy and wobble when pressed. Not the quality I was expecting for a branded product at this price. The most concerning for me though is the way the unit vibrates when shredding. This is rather off putting and makes it sound noisy and cheap.
This shreds paper well, but has a couple of faults which I don't like. One is that you can't see through the window, so can't tell when it's getting full (unlike how it's shown in the picture). The other is that you have to lift the whole mechanism off the top to empty it, dropping paper oddments all over the place. I had one before that had a slide out bin which was easy to deal with and didn't require any interference with the working part of the machine.
My 58CS, which I've had quite a while, just couldn't hack it any more. The Safe Sense light came on any time a single sheet of paper went anywhere near the shredder, removed the paper and the shredder burst into life. it was OK as long as you weren't actually trying to shred. My wife's 58CS is fine, but its hardly used. So I ordered a 53C which arrived today. First impressions are: The box clearly labelled it as LIGHT DUTY. This does not appear anywhere in the Amazon description. It claims on the box that it is powerful and can shred a maximum of 10 sheets at a time. I found that as soon as it faced 2 sheets together it slowed down very significantly, seemed to struggle, and became more noisy. I had oiled it before first using it. I'm very confident that it will not shred 10 sheets at a time unless using light weight toilet paper. If the performance drops off any more then it will be going back. I wish i had spent more money and bought something with a bit more guts.
I have had one of these shredders for just over 2 years. It has just broken, which is a little disappointing given its original cost. I would have hoped to get 3 or 4 years out of it. It shredded most things well but it obviously is not that durable.
Looks like product previous supplied to someone else, original box broken and clear evidence that it had been damaged when previously opened. Indeed one of the top box flaps was completely broken away. Item itself however appears undamaged so.keeping item although disappointed to find what I consider a grey item. Therefore I feel some compensation is in order.
