I never realised toasters toasted bread differently, so when I first used this toaster I was really impressed. My previous toaster was made by another premium brand but the result was nowhere near as good. In tune with the current trends of 'everything vintage', De Longhi toaster looks a lot like a vintage radio. I have to warn you: it's veyr big and takes a fair amount of space on the kitchen counter. However, it looks great and does a very good job at toasting. Unlike other vintage looking toasters I'd been looking at, the Vintage Icona is suitable for standard size sliced British-sold bread, and an entire slice fits perfectly in the toaster's slots. You can also toast bagels and other products, although if you're planning to toast full size pittas, you'll have to turn them halfway through.
So far I'm very happy with this machine - I hope it will last for many years to come.
Bought this to go with a cream theme for my new kitchen and love it. Best purchase ive made for ages, worth paying that little bit more. Easy to use and clean Ive used all types of bread and thicknesses with no problem.... I always read the reviews and not all of them were positive but I'm glad I bought it and have had no issues at all, I would definitely recommend.
I decided to upgrade cheap unbranded 2 slot toaster I bought from my local Lidl for about £15, I decided it was time to get something nice. I spent a while researching toasters and I like the retro ones, I had one years ago and loved it. I was really not disappointed by this, the build quality is lovely, it feels really sturdy and looks great, the best thing about it is it's function as a toaster which it does great! The toast came out evenly cooked and just right with the dial turned to 4. It was also so much quicker than my old toaster! I'd spent a while looking at toasters, all the other toasters of this caliber were so much more expensive, actually the beige one I purchased was £30 cheaper than the blue one. I'm not fussed about colour so I opted for the beige, I'm glad I did, it is really stylish. I'm really happy with it.
if like me you have been driven up the wall with toasters that a standard sized piece of sliced bread wont fit into then this is the toaster to calm your morning toast fix. The toaster looks great (Think Lambretta or Vespa styling) and when its paired up with the matching kettle it lifts the look of the kitchen nicely. Works fast and the controls are intuitive. Really happy with the purchase and would recomend
What do you look for in a toaster? Funky looks? Lots of toasting options? Or are you drawn to a toaster that simply toasts well? or do you like one that matches your kettle?
If it's all of the above and if you are looking at buying a kettle as well, then you're in luck with this Delonghi toaster, as you can get a matching kettle as well. It has a classic look, complete with chrome accents and retro dials, that will most likely sit well in any kind of kitchen. The front of the machine, there is the dual toast levers, the dual browning controls and the other buttons reside. Overall it's a styling that won't be to everyone's taste but I love it and it goes really well in our kitchen.
If you like a toaster that gives you a little more in the way of toasting options, then you'll be just as pleased with the Delonghi. There are only so many functions you can cram into a device designed purely to turn bread into slightly burned bread, but the Delonghi has pretty much all those you'll find on any other up-market toaster. A `bagel' setting toasts one side of the bagel only, while the `reheat' function warms up toast that has gone cold. Lastly, the `defrost' setting defrosts frozen bread in preparation for it to be toasted. These functions are accessed via two sets of buttons on the machine's front.
The toast levers each have a raising facility that pushes the toast up out of the top to assist in grabbing things like crumpets and really small slices of bread, although they don't actually raise it as far as I think they should and you might still have to jab your fingers in to grab toasted items. The browning controls are two knobs with dials above them, showing the browning level on a scale of 1 to 6 - turn one of the knobs and the needle in the dial above it turns accordingly.
If you're after a toaster that simply toasts well, then you may be pleasantly surprised (as I was) at how well the Delonghi does. Thick white bread at browning level 4 comes out extremely evenly toasted - better, in fact, than pretty much any other toaster I've used. The slot farthest to the right seems to be hotter than the others for some reason, and one side of the toast in all slots tends to be ever so slightly more well-done than the other, but the difference really is minimal. To toast a thick slice of white bread at level 4 takes around 3 and a half minutes and the only thing missing here is any kind of countdown timer, but precious few non-electronic toasters have that anyway.
Being a four-slice toaster, and seeing as there are only two raising levers and two browning dials, each one controls two of the four toasting slots. It means that someone wanting two pieces of toast, one done lightly and one done well, will have to turn on all four slots, but this is typical for a four-slice toaster. The Delonghi incorporates two crumb trays, accessible (slightly awkwardly) only from the back, and a pretty short electrical lead, so don't expect to house this too far from an electrical socket without an extension cable.
I haven't used the defrost function as I don't freeze bread, but I do find the reheat setting quite helpful, especially when I've toasted two pieces of bread at once and the second has gone cold in the time it's taken me to eat the first. All this setting really does is to toast the bread on a low heat to warm it through, but it is nice to have the guesswork taken out of the equation I suppose.
If I'm honest, I really was quite surprised at how well the Delonghi toasts bread, as I wasn't expecting too much from it. The styling isn't quite my thing but purely as a toaster rather than a decorative item I really can't fault it. I think it fits the bill if you want a toaster that looks quite funky, has toasting options to suit almost everyone and toasts very well, but you don't need the flashing lights and warning sounds found on modern electronic toasters.
Okay, so the price is high, but if you're willing to pay extra to have a well designed/stylish toaster, this one is waiting to be a great addition to your kitchen!
First off, I originally bought this in red for my parents 7 years ago. It still toasts like a dream and we use it a lot. Keeps the bread soft inside but crisp on the surface. It also heats evenly and can handle medium thick slices very well. The retro design doesn't get old and the finish is very durable. I picked this up in cream for my new place and it goes beautifully in the new kitchen - and its literally half the price the other colours go for. Here's to many more years of epic weekend breakfasts with fresh crusty bread!
Love this stylish toaster, easy to use, searched forever for a 2 slice black toaster to take thick slices of bread, easily adjustable for different browning, warming rack very useful for warming up rolls or scones, saves putting the oven on. Doesn't show fingerprints as is a matt finish and easily cleaned. Excellent build quality. Service from this supplier second to none, answered my queries regarding compliance with UK wiring instantly. Highly recommend this company. One very happy customer.
Very stylish looking toaster and at almost 50% a bargain. Is definitely more cream coloured than the beige it’s described as, I saw this on other reviews and was hoping mine would be too so I’m very happy that it is. Nice and simple to use and clean, the bagel function is an added bonus that is handy to prevent overly crispy bagels.
