A great looking light weight work boot. I was looking for a pair of black work boots for both work and riding the motorcycle and these are even better looking than I had envisioned. I’m used to wearing steel toe boots every single day so I really appreciate the composite toe. Still have protected toes with less weight. Problem though where the sole meets the leather there is stress marks maybe even hair line tears. I noticed this after a single day of wearing them and not doing anything that would have sliced leather... saddening but I’m not sending them back after all the back and forth I have done trying to find a set of work boots that feel good to my feet... shout out to Amazon for letting me return four different pair of boots until I found these.
I applied some Hubbard’s Shoe Grease shortly after recieving these boots... great stuff check it out if you’re hard on boots. A month after getting them we kept having downpours where I am working. Water up over the laces sloshing about and my feet were dry when I got into the truck. I love these boots.
Great comfortable boot straight out of box , i wear a 10.5 in boots and my last 2 Wolverine boots fit perfect As i was reading the review i noticed people saying these were a bit larger so i ordered a 10 D and it was a perfect fit the 10 D fits more like a 10.5 D ,i am veey glad i ordered a half size down .very good looking boot nice toe cover to keep scraps down I stand on concrete for about 10 hours a day ,I think these will do the trick they feel like tennis shoes when i put them on and very ligh
I've been wearing Wolverine boots exclusively for probably the last ten years. I've been happy with their shoes, how they wear, and their pricing. So I keep coming back! This is the second pair of this particular model -- the first pair lasted at least two years under moderate-to-sometimes-heavy-duty usage, even maintaining waterproofing until the seams started busting after a couple years of wear. (And I spend a good chunk of my time laboring in various construction and landscaping duties.)
Your results may vary depending on how you use and abuse your footwear. But the things I like:
1) The toe! Normally I have difficulty with my big toe rubbing up against the inside of shoes. How I normally deal with this is by getting a size or two larger or opting for a wider version of the shoe. On this particular shoe, however, I can get the proper size dead-on without toe abrasion. I even took the added step of ordering the WIDE version of the shoe, but found not only does it have the same sole, it in fact seemed to be narrower in the toes: the 9.5 was more comfortable for my big toe than the 9.5W! (I returned the 9.5W.)
2) Materials. The composit toe is tough enough to withstand most of the types of things that would endanger your toes, with the elasticity of non-steel and the scuff-resistance of rubber/plastic. Really, the overall synthesis of sueded pigskin along with hard rubber/plastic and nylon, always at least double stitched (and probably glued) -- this is a tough, but comfortable boot. The soles will last longer than the top of the boots; you may even find the laces last the life of the boot (that's been my experience).
I love these boots and am seriously considering ordering another pair for 2-3 years time when I'll need another pair.
Used these boots working FedEx for over a year. Was working mostly indoors on concrete floors or steel grates. Right out of the box they were pretty comfy; slapped a pair of Dr. Scholl's Work Gel insoles right on top of the supplied Wolverine insoles, and they were perfect for me. After a year of indoor hard use at the hub, the soles are barely worn. No rips or tears anywhere. They are a bit crumpled and wrinkled up after all that but still perfectly functional. On waterproofing effectiveness: I did have to walk through water fairly often (not lingering in it by any means) and they didn't leak...but I can't speak for folks who have to work in the rain for extended periods.
One pro tip...I fully soaked the uppers of these boots, including the tongue, laces and all the seams where leather meets rubber/synthetic material with Ballistol before breaking them in, and treated them again after break in was finished, about a week. I re-treat all my leather shoes/boots with Ballistol about every 2-3 months. It will darken the leather, but imho improves the waterproofing and keeps leather supple.
The shoes were waterproof until they both failed at the exact same point. (Photo included) about 7 months into wearing them the laces started to separate into it's inner layers but never broke on me. I'm a full year into owning these and I admit I cover more miles than the average person. I'm extremely disappointed that both shoes wore out at the exact same place on each shoe (at the same time) and have essentially completely failed me as a pair of work boots as I work in a wet enviroment. The (extremely comfortable) foam inserts wore out about 4 months in for me and I just got some gell "on top" inserts. I really liked these boots and I planned on having them for more than just a single year. A second year of use out of these would have given a perfect five star rating from me. I really like them and hate that both boots got a hole
I'm loving this boot so far. I take either a 12 or 12 and a half so I went with a 12 and I have some room around the toe box, however it doesnt cause pain and I think it can be solved with proper insoles. I used them at a deli for a few days and they're quite comfortable nevertheless. Usually my boots dont make a year at my deli due to water wear and general bending as well as grime build up. I will update this when I notice they start to break up and subsequently when I have to trash them. I am hoping they last over a year otherwise I will have to shell out the money for Iron ranger's. The search for a high endurance boot is exhausting yet exciting but the wait will eventually yield a great reward.
UPDATE: As of today it is may 20th. These boots have last a little under a year. I will try the timberland pros then I will go to iron rangers. These wolverine boots are a totally breaking down worse than cheaper boots I've had. Would not reccomend.
Was pretty excited to try these work boots on. But on the first day after spending over $160 dollars on these boots i was very disappointed that the comfort was trash my feet hurt so bad that i had to spend more money $23 dollars more on a pair of Dr. SCHOLLS Foot inserts to relieve the discomfort for the lack of Cushioning that this Work boot does not have. The foot inserts are a disappointment as well but help it a little better to tolerate the pain. I would not recommend this unless you like discomfort. Im stuck with these boots until i can find another one to replace these
Bought these to start as a Conductor at a railroad. It is February in Chicago. Super comfy boot. Company bought a competitor for me thought I would rotate boots. Both same size similar styles. I would any day prefer these to the other boots. Water proof, composite toe, insoles feel good after 10+ hours on my feet. I will be getting another pair of these for a second pair to rotate with.
These boots could have been great. They fit perfecy according to my usual size, felt sturdy, and could have been great worm boots. One complaint: that the shape of the toe box does not work well with the composite toe. The composite toe rubbed on my big toe as soon as I put them on. Walked a few feet in them indoors just to try them on and could immediately feel the composite toe.
Otherwise, a good boot. Not as comfortable as I had hoped for the money. Danner’s Vicious (although the pair I got were too small for me) were much more comfortable right out of the box and cheaper (not protective toe boots, however). If these things felt like the cushioned goodness of Danner’s with a toe box that wouldn’t make the composite rub they’d be the perfect boot.
The Boots in my opinion where very well made I have had then for 2 years and I haven't had any issues no tears or holes they have held out extremely well and I've been using boots for well over 20 years and I've gone through boots in 6months to a year. So I Highly Recommend this Wolverine Boot Style. I am Definitely Getting another pair Great Look aswell.
Well it's been over 2 years since I posted about these boots when I first bought them through Amazon . Well I actually initially bought them at Sears for the very first time when the Store was still open and I just received my 2nd pair in today. On 5-2-20 and these boots are still working great for me other than your typical Wear and tear so now these are my Yard boots and my New ones I just received will be put back to the test come Monday Morning these boots get a 5 star again from me and in another 2 years I will be reordering them again as long as Amazon keeps Carrying them 👍👍👍👍👍 Wolverine.
