I ended up returning this as it is not fit for purpose.
The nozzle is completely opaque so you cannot see if you are actually sucking up any dirt from the gravel, which made it very difficult to clean the gravel as part of a water change.
The nozzle also got completely clogged with gravel very quickly, making it impossible to clean the gravel. The gaps in the nozzle net are quite large, so small gravel will also fit through and get sucked up with the water. The gravel in my aquarium is not that small and I have used other siphons without any issues.
I have a 80 gallon tank sand bottom full of small community fish. Have an expensive version that was just not doing it for me. Saw this with the bottom filter and was so cheap it was worth giving it a go. Works great on the sandy bottom, the bulb you squeeze to start the water off is easy to use, three squeezes and off you go. No chance of accidentally sucking up a fish low mess. Great for the price.
worked really well once i realized you pumped instead of sucked, though sucking worked well, it just wasn't a pleasant experience, I am now getting the hang of using this every other day and am now successful in not sucking the fish up the filter too happy me, happy fish
Could of done with it been quite a bit longer for my larger tank (50cm deep) ok for small tank though (30cm deep). Again in small tank the suction is ok in the larger tank though it will take a while for a water change. The suction isn’t strong enough to remove debris heavy that flake food, don’t expect it to be strong enough to clean the substrate. For the price though it’s good
Sent back. Sucked up all the sand but didn’t clean and churn back out like others do. Also removed water really quickly which isn’t that great in a smaller aquarium. Would probably suit best a decent sized tank with gravel.
Didn't think I would use this for a while but had emergency situation this morning, and it emptied the tank quite quickly and saved a lot of running about with buckets of water. The used it to refill the tank from the water butt, very happy with my purchase
Never a truer word. Brought this as liked the price, however, after three uses I'm now having to buy another one. the syphon valve has failed, meaning this is worthless now. Save your money and get a decent one.
