This is a very nice and high-quality wooden dog gate. It's quite heavy and can stand freely without attaching to the wall. It comes with two foot supporters to give it even extra stability. There is even a hinged door within it so you can walk through it if needed. It also comes completely assembled, so there's zero preparation work when it gets to your home.
I really love this gate, and I wished it worked for me. I have a 10-year-old pug dog (20 pounds) with separation anxiety. I needed this dog gate to be able to secure him in my kitchen without him escaping. From my current configuration, my dog was able to push the gate and escape from the side. If your dog has separation anxiety, this may not be the best dog gate for you.
Before purchasing, understand that your dog will require extra training to make sure your dog doesn't push at the gate. Also, since the gate doesn't attach to the wall or have any extra hardware to do so, your dog will easily be able to move it if you place it on a slippery surface. Overall, it's a great product, and if your dog is chill, this dog gate will be sufficient. However, if your dog doesn't like to be away from you, you may need to look for other options or get creative.
This is a good gate, certainly better than many other wooden gates on Amazon because of the thick bars (some seem to be much thinner) and also the very narrow gap under the door, which is why I got it for my rabbits. The main issue I have with this gate are the relatively flimsy metal hardware parts. The gate is relatively heavy, and the metal parts are not heavy duty enough to support it well, especially if you intend on opening and closing the door multiple times a day. The hinges arrived a bit bent, and I had to straighten them out and re-attach. I might look into alternative replacement hinges at some point. But in my opinion they are the main weakness of this gate, bringing it down from the excellent durable gate to a gate to be careful and observant with.
Other than that, it's really nice that the hinges between the panels can bend in either direction, so you can form the gate in whatever configuration you wish.
Note: use this gate only on even floor surface. Even the feet that come with it don't like almost any surface variation to touch the floor properly. I had to take a carpet runner from under the gate for this reason.
I bought 2 gates, one for myself and 1 for my parents. I put mine up right away. Love the height and the fact that there is a gate. I found that on carpet it works better without the support feet. Unfortunately I ordered 2 more sets of support feet thinking that 4 supports would be better than 2. The issue I have is with the other . My folks didn't open theirs right away and when they did today, we found out that the single piece next to the gate is not attached & when I went over and looked at it, I found it was never put together correctly. Since it is over a month, I guess I am stuck with a $99.00 broken gate.
Final Update: The second gate they sent me had the same issue as the first, broken in exactly the same way. I spoke with one of their reps on the phone as he wanted to gather more information on how it was packed, box damage, what I saw when I opened the box, etc. He sent me a third gate and this one has arrived in perfect condition. It's amazing how much sturdier it is when it is whole. It's a nice dark, shiny finish so it looks great, and the gate functions very well. Friends have commented how high end it looks. And best of all, it keeps my pekingese and chihuahua out of the living room when we're gone. Great customer service!
Original review: This arrived broken, but as I had no other options and needed it to be in place within the hour, due to the imminent arrival of a friend's dogs, I had to attempt to fix it. The last section, next to the gate, and the gate section looked like they were attached at one point. It looks like there were wooden pegs that had broken off, so the sections broke apart. I used metal brackets that I already had at home to attach the two pieces back together. It's odd that it broke though, because the whole gate was wrapped tightly in plastic wrap when I received it, and there were protective sheets between each gate.
It seems very unsteady, and the feet don't do a whole lot to hold it up since they slide down onto the panels (the panels are not resting ON the feet, the feet rest on the panel). Since I've already modified this one and wouldn't be able to return it, I'll be buying two more feet in hopes they stabilize it. If I'd had any choice, I'd have returned it.
Update: The company sent me a new gate after reading this review. I responded to them 3 days ago with pictures of the new gate, which has the same issue as the first gate, and have not had any response. I will say, the gate itself does look good. It has a high end look, very shiny. The feet that came with the original gate did not have any grippy material inside where they fit over the gate panels. I ordered an extra set of feet and those did have material inside the opening where they fit over the gate. The gate still doesn't stand up straight, but I have it set up straight across the flooring change from hard floor to carpet, so that could certainly be causing part of the issue.
I really like this gate. It looks great and we often keep it set up, even when we're not going away. It just looks that good and there's no need to 'hide' it. I have a small dog, about 17 lbs and when this is set up she never tries to push through it. The barrier does its job in preventing a small dog from even thinking of trying to barrel through it. The footings are really good to make it more sturdy and it's a clever design. In my case I use this in a wide opening and I use the footings at either end to serve as a barrier between wall and gate so there's no opening. It's solid but still light, easy enough for me to carry it. The footings have small pads on them so I can slide this to expand/collapse without worrying about scratching hardwood floors. The cut-outs that are bone-shaped to help you carry the gate are very clever. A couple visitors have commented assuming this is a child gate but then they notice the bone-shaped openings. My dog has scratched a bit at the gate opening and the finish has worn off but that's a minor complaint. This gate serves its purpose and looks great. Not sure how sturdy it would be for a big dog. I'd guess a bigger dog could push this and move it but maybe the footings would help. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase so far.
The gate can easily be move by a large breed dog when on smooth floor surfaces. My 7 month old doberman puppy has figured out how to push it to cause an opening between the wall and the pet gate and she can nudge herself through the opening to get access to the area I want her yo not have access to. I even tried to add 10lbs weights on both sides on the bottom to try to make it hard for her to move the gate but that caused her slow down the process of moving the gate. Luckily I have a shock pad I use to keep her off my couch and i put that in front of the gate so she cannot touch it at all at that did the trick in teaching her to stay away from it. Other then that issue the gate is great. I love the door feature. If you have the gate by a light color wall and it bumbs it it will leave a colored mark on the wall so I suggest adding padding so your walls don't get scuffed. Easy to put up and move around. Fold down with ease to store.
I like this gate, it serves as a barrier before the front door and staircase entry way. It's not very sturdy, but my dog does not try to jump on things. Shes 60lbs, but she doesnt really try to push her way in or out. She sees the gate and waits outside of it until we open it. I dont expect 100% strength, as it's a partial gate (but if it were connected together into a play pen I'm sure it would gain more strength. It works for me and I recommend it, the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because I have had issues with the lock latching. The latch falls off and has to be reput on and tightened. Its flawed....but it's not useless, its just annoying to put it back on whenever it falls off.
