Bought a midnight blue controller, came in a box that was originally for a jet black controller. On top of that, the instructions manual was for the newer ZCT2E model. But the controller was the older ZCT1E.
At some point in the last few years sony slightly redesigned their DS4 controller. This is my second time buying these newer ones. I found a few good things about it, and a bad thing as well.
Pros: L2/R2 buttons/ springs were redesigned and now don't break as easy. It's now slighty easier to take apart now for repairs. There's a cool new light bar on the touch pad. (Some may find it annoying though)
Cons: Just like many others have said....The left analog stick wears out way faster than the last gen DS4 controllers.
I purchased this from Amazon, not a 3rd party. The box it arrived in was undamaged and in mint condition. When I opened the box, this is what I found inside (see pix). This was a new, not used, product. I didn't open it, so I don't know if it worked or not. I immediately made Amazon send a replacement and had to make a trip to UPS to return it. Amazon should stop employing todlers to package their items.
A common problem I’ve come across with PS4 controllers is after about a year or two of regular use is the right stick has a tendency to ‘drift’. Basically, the stick will slowly move in one particular direction, for whatever reason. Not a major hindrance in gameplay, but a minor annoyance. I usually go a purchase a new controller once this starts to happen. Came across this one when it was time to replace the controller I’d had for about a year and a half. Was excited because I liked the nice purple colour of it. From day one I noticed a problem of the right stick ‘flicking’ upwards almost constantly. Any time I’d put even the slightest upward motion on the stick it’d start seizuring up like it’d never seen a ceiling before. Not a huge problem in most games, but in the games I was playing, accuracy matters most. Nothing quite like wasting two or three rounds of ammo trying to pinpoint a shot on a target and yer controller decides it wants to look up and check the weather first. More than likely it’s a defective controller. Everything else worked fine, it’s just the instances where it wants to jitterbug its way to the Northpole or start stargazing in broad daylight that’s put me off. I just got tired of everytime I’d line up a perfect shot on a target and the controller would go “HOLY CRAP! WHAT’S UP THERE! I GOTTA LOOK!” I get it controller, I like to explore every square millimeter of a level of map of whatever game I happen to be playing at the time, but you don’t have to do the exploring for me. We’ll get there, I promise.
I am not sure if some controllers in general are defective and it is luck of the draw Maybe it has to do with where you get them from or it could just be damage from handling? I could not say, but I paid extra for an official PS4 controller expecting it to last for years and it barely make it half a year. The left control stick had a resistance; not to tilting the stick but to it responding when pressed directly left. The same stick also had a drift effect from being engaging that would last until pressed in another direction. The drift and imbalance left me feeling dizzy so struggling through was not a real option. I would say overall for $90 I regret the purchase and would like to at least be replacing a lower costing option right now.
I really love the color of this controller, I purchased the orange one as well. Out of the two, the blue one has more issues. It has a delayed response when I push the buttons and the stick has a short so when I play certain games it scrolls nonstop in menus or the character is constantly switching between running and walking. Also the light bar just blinks when I turn it on sometimes and doesn't fully turn on so I have to reset it to make it work right sometimes. I love the colors just wished it worked better.
