Did you know that it gets harder for birds to perch as they get older? We have several senior birds and we've purchased several of these platforms. Our 22 year old cockateil took to it immediately and sleeps on his platform every night. Our pair of budgies took longer to accept it, but now that they are used to it, they hang out on their platform all the time! They are well made and I think anyone with pet birds should provide one for their pet's health and comfort.
This is a very nice bird play stand. I wanted something I could let my new young Conure out out of her cage in, which wasn't my shoulder or head while I am working. This is sturdy, and screws together tightly. All the parts are either thick wood or metal so that she cant chew through them. My inly complaint is a design flaw which is actually a pretty serious issue, and so the reason for 4 stars. The stands tue bird sits on are ALL around the edge, just outside the pan. So they just poop over the edge. So careful where you set this, as they wont actually poop in the pan. And now I have to buy a bigger pan for this to sit in the center of so that the poo is caught.
I have 4 cocketiels who loved standing on there food box so I got these platform's knowing they would use them they just love them only thing is many birds like to chew wood so I might have to sand down them sometimes but great product all birds are different me people say they won't use them depends on the bird plus give them time to warm up to it it's a new thing in there cage they like it because it gives them a break from always perching and smooth surface so there not laying on bars of the bottom of the cage this company has a great idea and product can't wait to see what wake they have in store
Update: Originally I rated this stand 4 stars, only stating that it was a bit pricier than it should have been. That being said, just two months after getting it, the wooden base has warped and the frames are snapping off, exposing sharp staples that my budgies could get hurt on. I wash it daily because the metal tray doesn’t cover the entire base of the stand and poop/food gets between the tray and the wood. I don’t soak it, and it is left to dry out immediately, but it seems this stand isn’t meant for daily cleaning which is basically impossible with four budgies because in 24 hours the stand is covered in poop/discarded food. Review updated to two stars because in a few weeks I’ll already be searching for a new stand which is ridiculous given the price point of the item.
Original review: Well-built play stand and sturdy, but I would say a little expensive for what it is. The wood also smells similar to cedar which makes me nervous (since it’s toxic to birds) but my family members feel that it’s not actually cedar. I added several toys and swings to it for my budgies and they seem to really enjoy that so far. The food cups that come with it are kind of ugly and small, so I elected to just use my own next to it on top of their cage. It was also hard to assemble since it came with zero instructions and I had to use the photo on the amazon listing to do so.
Exactly what I wanted. Everything is predrilled. No instructions but hope this pic helps. Basically put on squared supports first. Then laddered middle piece. Then round supports and finally top perch. Hopefully this helps.
My 12yo budgie broke a leg this past Thanksgiving. I thought we would lose him, but I hand fed him and he recovered. I originally bought a corner perch with dowels which didn't last and wasn't as easy for him to maneuver. The platform stand is perfect. He spreads his wings and sleeps on it at night. He also uses it to feed.
My Senegal parrot and Quaker parrot love having this platform to stand on. It’s great to give birds something other than a perch to stand on once in a while, to rest their feet. They also like having a snack there, and it’s good for chewing on, too. I’ll definitely buy this again when we need it.
I purchased this for my conure. I would say this is perfect for small birds. It’s a decent size for my conure although I could’ve gone a bit bigger. This was a bit of a challenge to put together because the instructions were not explained well. There are pictures but you have to guess which parts go where as a lot of them look alike. Other than that, it’s definitely a cute play area for a small bird that is easy to move from room to room.
Update: after actually using it I thought I’d update since I mostly commented on the assembly. My conure loves it now but it took some time. My only issue is where the perches are set up almost always means poop and food will not fall on it so I’m constantly cleaning around it. Also, the perches stain easily. I fed my conure strawberries and most of the perches are now red lol. Other than that it’s pretty good but could use some improvements.
