Bought this a year ago and using very regularly and maintaining it well. Good quality product for searing steak and am using regularly for frying fish or Chicken. Used it as Pizza base as well but the high lip is sometimes obstructing
So I did A LOT of research...and always kept coming back to Lodge. I watched videos, read reviews, read comparisons. I did it all. Over and over again the path led to Lodge. I, myself, have never owned a cast iron skillet. Those were for our parents to own, who seasoned them perfectly over generations. I was terrified of cast iron and their price. But Lodge definitely did not disappoint. It’s an amazing price and an amazing pan. Right out of the box it was seasoned beautifully, a rich black sheen that seemed to be consistent and even. I chose to do an additional seasoning before it’s first use, so I cranked my oven to 450 degrees, lightly oiled it with grape seed oil (cause that’s what I had) and put it in the over upside down (so excess oil can drip out) for 1 full hour. My husband used it the next morning for his eggs (over easy) and they didn’t stick...like at all!!! Then for supper I did steaks then sautéd spinach in the left over butter and garlic from the steak. OMG. Nothing stuck, the crust on the steak was absolutely beautiful. I can’t believe it took me this long to get my first grown up cast iron pan! But I’m so glad I started with Lodge - you won’t be disappointed. I have a feeling there will be more in my future...Also, for those who aren’t novice home chefs, do a little research, there is a tiny learning curve (heat, smoke point etc.) You won’t regret your choice :)
Absolutely brilliant pan. Have been (and still am) using a cheaper cast iron pan. This one by comparison was an awful lot easier to get started with as its pre-coated, unlike the cheaper one. Gets tremendously hot after just a few minutes on a medium flame and holds that heat very well. I'm still using the cheaper one too (it's deeper) for some dishes because because its brilliantly non-stick after years of use......but theres no comparison. It feels like it'll last forever and definitely makes cooking a joy. Buy one-you won't regret it!
Received today and just cooked up the most delicious piece of fish I’ve had in maybe 40 years, which was the last time I cooked fish over an open fire on the beach. I’ve had only 1 other cast iron pan, a cheap one that I got rid of years ago, but seeing as I wanted a new pan, I thought try a good cast iron pan this time. I do have a couple of stainless steel pans but I’m in love with this Lodge and it will be my go-to. Also I want to note that the Lodge website has all of the information you need on the care and proper use of their cast iron cookware. If you’re new to cast iron or need a refresher, then be sure to read the website. Great looking recipes there as well.
I have just one beef with Amazon regarding this purchase: I don’t know what they’re doing with their employees over in Balzac, but my pan was delivered at lightening speed and not packed very well - tons of bubble in the box but the most of the bubble was deflated and the pan hardly touched any of it, leaving the pan to clatter around in the box. Also the box was rather loosely taped. My suspicion tells me that maybe they’re cracking the whip to get workers, some inexperienced, to move faster than practical and If that’s the case then smarten up, these are people you’re hiring, not machines.
It is very expensive, as I am from Canada, but worth the money! And will last forever! Finally I can cook dinner for our large family of 7 in one pan....and even better for when guests come over! Easy to use and clean, just follow suggestions that are provided or look up online. I think cast iron even makes my cooking taste better!
