A deeply overpriced, underwhelming experience from Beyerdynamic

I really expected more from Beyerdynamic having owned a pair of their headphones before. These were £399 when I purchassed them and I soon regretted every penny. Please note that I'm writing this review a few months after purchase, and used them frequently whilst they were still working.

Just to be clear, I wouldn't class myself as an audiophile, but I really appreciate good sound. I also need the warmth that good, rich bass brings. I own a par of Earsonic Velvets for when I'm at my desk, Bose soundsport wireless for running, a set of Sony MDR-EX650AP to throw around (seriously good value for money if you need a pair of cheap and cheerfuls you won't mind leaving on a train occasionally) and I'm looking for a new set of over ear wireless headphones.

I thought it would be easiest to summarise why I don't like the Aventhos:

- Lacking in bass with average mids and highs. Really disappointing. (I swear there was a day I stuck my cheap and cheerful sonys in and realised I'd missed their sound. They cost me £40)
- Bad connectivity, having to go into my bluetooth settings 90% of the time to connect them with my iPhone X
- Connection often dropped for a split second
- After a couple of months the left ear went, and now they sound fuzzy and broken. Completely unusable.
- Siri functionality NEVER worked. I even got in touch with Beyerdynamic to find out if this was unique to my pair and was told it was to do with Apple restrictions. This is untrue as since then I've owned other wireless headphones and had no trouble long-pressing a button to access Siri.
- Although comfortable at first, they soon start to feel a bit tight and warm, clamped to your ears. It will feel like a relief taking them off after an hour or two.
- They let a lot of sound out.
- If i'm going to pay £400 for a set of headphones that doesn't have noise cancelling capabilities, then I need to be really impressed with the experience. The Bose QuietComfort 35 II can be found for almost £150 cheaper, they sound considerably better and have noise cancelling capabilities. The Aventhos may look a bit smaller and more compact, but it's not worth it.

I don't usually write reviews, and hate to leave a bad one. But I really felt like I was taken for a ride with these, with Beyerdynamic using their brand name to get more money out of people.

I used to love Beyerdynamic headphones, but after my experience with Aventhos I will now look elsewhere. As much as I hate buying into high street headphones which I know have a hefty mark up, my experience of both the Bose and Sony equivalents are substantially better in quality, sound and price.

These headphones are simply not worth the money you pay for them and I would avoid them at all costs, however tempting it is to spend the money on trusting the Beyerdynamic brand name.

Der Aventho hält leider nicht das, was er verspricht!

Nach 14 Tagen pfleglicher Behandlung ist die Plastikhalterung gebrochen, die den (linken) Bügel hält.
Für ein 400 Euro Produkt ein absolutes No Go!!

Dazu kommt noch dieses ständige Fiepen, welches auch schon andere User bemängelt haben!

Der Klang ist gut, aber nicht hervorragend. Der Onkyo H500BTB kostet nicht mal die Hälfte, klingt aber mindestens genauso gut!

Da anscheinend billiges Plastik in der heutigen Zeit eine wichtige Rolle spielt, werde ich mir so schnell keinen Bluetooth-Kopfhörer über 100 Euro mehr anschaffen!

Jetzt mag ja jemand sagen, dass es doch schon ganz Ok sei, wenn man "normal über Bluetooth hören kann". Nein, das ist es nicht, und dafür brauche ich auch keine 400 Euro auszugeben, für einen Klang, den ich eher als durchschnittlich empfinde (ich kenne durchaus Highend, hatte mal einen Sennheiser HD800)..

Ich habe den Aventho ausschliesslich nur wegen der Personalisierbarkeit gekauft, also dem, was beyerdynamic mit MIY App bezeichnet, und was auf Software der Berliner Firma "Mimi Hearing Technologies" zurückgeht. Deren Software hat zwar eine - man muss es wohl sagen - primitive und auf Dauer nicht hinnehmbare GUI, aber der Klangverbesserungseffekt für Leute mit schlechtem Gehör (ich bin normal altersschwerhörig mit Hochtondämpfung) ist attraktiv, wie ich ausführlich mit einem guten Sony-IEM ausprobiert hatte.

So etwas wollte ich jetzt in einem Kopfhörer oder IEM haben und habe deshalb den Aventho gekauft. Und nichts dergleichen bekommen. Rein garnichts...

Als erstes sagt die online Bedienungsanleitung (auch für deren Finden habe ich in dem Werbe-Wust auf der Webseite lange suchen müssen), dass ich einen Firmware-Update machen müsse. Ok, die angebotene "beyerdynamic Update Hub" App lässt sich zwar downloaden und auf dem Macbook (neuestes macOS) installieren, aber nicht wie im Programm gesagt per USB mit dem Aventho verbinden. Egal was ich mache... Mist...

So ging es leider weiter: Die MIY App hat sich auf meinem iPhone 6S+ mit IOS 12.3 zwar problemlos installieren lassen. Aber ein Haufen Steine lässt sich vermutlich auch installieren, das bringt ja noch keinen Millimeter weiter... Die App findet nämlich den per Bluetooth gekoppelten Aventho nicht, wieder egal was ich mache, und sie folgt auch nicht dem "App ohne Kopfhörer verwenden"-Button, sondern endet dann kurze Zeit später auch im Nirvana.

Verdammt schwaches Bild. Und sehr ärgerlich.

Und diese Art von Problem scheint älter zu sein, ist aber heute (3. April 2019) immer noch ungelöst.

Da werde ich den Aventho wohl zurückschicken müssen. Aber das ändert nichts an meiner erheblichen Mühe und dem (seitens beyerdynamic) nicht rechtfertigbaren Ärger, den mir das Ganze verursacht hat. Niemand hat beyerdynamic gezwungen, sich in ihrer gesamten Werbung auf die MIY-Personalisierbarkeit zu konzentrieren. Die sie dann schlicht nicht liefern (können)...

Sorry, aber ich finde, dass sich beyerdynamic wirklich schämen sollte... Vielleicht haben sie früher in der Morgendämmerung des Elektronik-Zeitalters ja mal gute Telephone für die Bundespost hergestellt. Aber dann hätten sie vielleicht dabei bleiben sollen...

Sound is phenomenal, probably the best sound after trying 4-5 headsets from Sony, Bose, JBL. The earpads are mad of good quality fake leather and feels amazing for long duration listening.

The kicker? All this goes to waste because the headset sliders are made of plastic and will break after normal wear. Just opening the headset to place on your head causes it to crack ever so slightly till you completely snap it off after a month. ONLY A MONTH. For the price this shouldn't happen. Do not buy these.

Plastikhalterung am Metallbügel?

Tragekomfort super. Tonqualität klasse. Bluethooth eher dürftig. Style ok. Akkulaufzeit wirklich ok. Aber dass die Befestigung des Hörer mittels einem kleinen Plastik-Klip realisiert wird, ist auf den ersten Blick leider nicht ersichtlich. Der Bügel ist aus Metall und die Halterung aus Plastik. Da kann man sich doch gleich fragen, wie lange hält es? Leider nicht lange. Hätte ich den Kopfhörer täglich genutzt, dann wäre er nach ca. 10 Wochen in dem jetzigen Stadium. Der Support hat auf meinem "Antrag" vor 12 Tagen mit einer Standardmail geantwortet, dass es länger dauern könnte bis man sich meldet. Ich werde es jetzt aber über Amazon retournieren. Darauf kann man sich dann verlassen und es klappt zügig und schnell.

Es fing schon damit an, dass eben nicht die Bluetooth-Standards unterstützt werden, die im Produktdatenblatt angegeben sind: das Headset funktioniert NICHT mit Bluetooth 4.2, sondern wird erst ab Bluetooth 5.0 unterstützt (es wird aptX benötigt).
Wenn man leise Musik hört, hört man immer einen System-Piepton im Hintergrund, den man nicht ausschalten kann.
Nach 3 Monaten kamen die ersten Aussetzer, wo sich das Headset nicht mehr anschalten ließ. Wie ein Wackelkontakt war es völlig random, mal funktionierte es, mal stundenlang nicht.
Nach 4 Monaten war das Touch Display total hinüber: Lautsärtke & Co. ließen sich dann also nur noch am Endgerät bedienen. Das Touch Display war vorher schon schwergängig: für Pause und Play musste man sehr genau die unsichtbaren Knöpfe treffen.
Ebenso nach 4 Monaten schwächelte die Bluetooth-Verbindung: plötzlich gab es Aussetzer in der Übertragung. Wieder sehr ähnlich einem Wackelkontakt, völlig random.
Der Händler bietet hier keinen Austausch mit einem funktionieren Gerät an und Beyerdynamic bietet keine kostenfreie Retoure an für einen Austausch. Bei dem Preis ziemlich unverschämt.
Äußerst schade, weil das Design sehr schön ist und das Headset an sich schön klein und handlich ist.

Das ist übrigens schon das 2. Mal, dass ein Headset von Beyerdynamic so schnell den Geist aufgibt: ich hatte vorher die Kabel-Version und auch die war total hinüber innerhalb weniger Monate. Beyerdynamic Consumer-Produkte scheinen ihren Preis nicht wert zu sein. Mit den Profi-Produkten, die erheblich günstiger sind, hatte ich noch nie Probleme in all den Jahren.

Wenn ein Kopfhörer eine Sache nicht machen sollte, dann ein eigenes(!) Störgeräusch hervorrufen. Hier leider der Fall und scheint nach kurzer Recherche wohl bei vielen Exemplaren so zu sein, weil Billigteile verbaut wurden. Die Bluetooth-Verbindung ist deshalb durch ein ständiges Fiepen hörbar. Gerade bei leiser Musik, Hörbüchern, Podcasts sehr nervig. Lässt sich nur umgehen, indem man Bluetooth deaktiviert und per Kabelanschluss hört.

Wirklich schade. Hier wurde ein schönes Produkt direkt für die Mülltonne produziert. Sonst wäre ich zufrieden, aber bei so einem groben Konstruktionsfehler muss man eigentlich schon von Kundenbetrug reden, daher 1 Stern.

There’s so many problems with this headphone since the last few software updates:

- When turning it off it randomly decides to immediately turn itself on again
- When it connects to a device it starts playing random music right away without me ever asking it to
- It annoyingly tries to connect to two devices at the same time, but if I start a video call on one of the devices it starts disconnecting and reconnecting until I turn Bluetooth off on one device
- It loses connection much more often than before

This used to be a great headphone... until I updated the firmware

Al principio estuve satisfecho con la compra por el sonido que tenia, Después de usarlos por un tiempo por un par de años estos auriculares se están desarmando, Se ha soltado uno de los auriculares de su soporte, el otro solto el remache que lo sostiene. Es decir, se han soltado ambos auriculares de sus soportes, los fije yo mismo, pero ahora las almohadillas se están desprendiendo. La calidad de materiales decepciona. Es la primera vez que esto me sucede, tengo unos B&W P5 primera generación y aun están impecables. Voy a sustituir estos BeyerDynamic.

Bought these pricey cans July 24 2018. I almost sent them back as soon as they arrived because the power button was so stiff, flimsy, cheap and a PITA to use that it looks to me like it was a problem waiting to happens. Always had problems with the Bluetooth link, too. I had to reconnect them to my phone and computer about every two weeks.

And now what was bound to happen, happened. Last week, that &?%*?% button just stopped responding. It's just dead.

Note that I used these headphones lightly, only at my home office, and took great care of them.

As the 2 years warranty expired 6 months ago, my +500$ (CAD) headphones are now as good as a brick to listen to music.

Great job, Beyerdynamic. There's only ONE button on that pricey device, and you botch it. Never again.
