I was very excited about this product because I saw good reviews. When I received it today this is how it came inside the sealed package... with dirt, mold and it was damp. I obviously won't let my bunnies near these mats. I'm super upset and disappointed.
My dwarf bunny, Dusty, loved these grass mats and tore them apart within just a few hours.
Unfortunately, my cat, Nicodemus von Wittykitty, liked them, too. Any hay that landed outside Dusty's cage, Nico ate. (This is a cat that will NOT eat any "people food," wet cat food, or soft cat treats - but seems to have an affinity for many things he *shouldn't* eat [that are neither people nor cat foods], and *those* he eats with gusto).
Ask me about the time he gobbled down a flower from an azalea bush. THAT cost me $200.00 in vet bills.
Anyway, after cleaning up cat vomit laced with hay multiple times over a three day period, alas I had to make the decision not to repurchase these grass mats. Which makes Dusty bunny very sad. She's no longer speaking to the cat.
However, if YOU don't have a cat partial to nomming on hay, give these a try with *your* bunny.
My rabbit, Ellie, LOVES the mats. She likes to chew the strands and dig at it too! Glad I bought the 3 pack because she just tears right through them. Only issue is that it’s a bit messy since she just rips it apart (so I keep it in her crate area instead of the pen) but I’m glad she loves it so much. I would definitely recommend this product for their rabbits!
Upon opening the bag of these mats, I noticed it didn't smell fresh like fresh grass and the mats were mostly brown instead of green. The mats smelled of staleness, smoke, and had a heavy residue covering it. The more it was in our rabbits' room, the worst it smelled and caused severe allergic reaction including tightness in my lungs. My daughter who is an asthmatic had to take medicine quickly as it caused an avalanche of mucous to drip down her throat including mine too. I quickly pulled the mats from my rabbits' cages, packaged them up for return immediately. This could not only be hazardous to our health, but the heath of our rabbits. I would NEVER order these mats again!
These are great! This was my first grass mat purchase and my bunnies and I liked them so much I was going to reorder - but then saw the larger size and bought those instead. My little neutered male still likes to dig and these mats give him something to dig into. I like them because I put their greens and/or hay on them and when it's time to clean I fold them over, pick them up and shake them off. Makes clean up super fast!
My albino lionhead rabbit LOVES these mats! He’s a bit of a terror who enjoys playing and will chew anything he can get his mouth on so I’m happy to give him something constructive. He really likes manipulating these around his cage, tugging them around, digging on them, and pulling them apart. If he’s really bored, it takes him about 3-4 days to shred it but other times he’s had them for over a month. It’s nice that he can eat them when he’s finished with them; there are 3 other bunnies and they all love sharing his leftovers, haha.
I am giving these 4 stars mostly because our rabbit LOVES them. I knocked off one star because they are very loosely woven and are very easily pulled apart. Our rabbit pulled one apart in a matter of minutes and left the hay/grass strewen all over the living room. He did have a good time doing so. I ended up gathering all the grass/hay and bundling it . Tied it with string which he took great delight in pulling that apart.
It doesn’t smell, appears all natural however it would have been more lasting if woven a little tighter. However the price was really good.
