To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we do not use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
This product was used for an open doorway to keep the baby out. It took a few hours and two of us to install but we figured well worth it... NOT SO. The clasp broke after my 9 year old closed it and it would no longer lock. I contacted the manufacturer and they asked for photos which I sent them immediately. That was not sufficient and they asked that I dismantle, find a box and return it (they did send a label). Not even guaranteed they will send a new one until they see the damage. I guess that’s the risk of online shopping but now I know this company doesn’t produce sturdy CHILDPROOF items.
Even the positive reviews mention how awful it is to install, how bad the directions are, and how many of the pieces don't fit where intended (assuming you even get all the pieces). As an example of how bad the instructions are, there's a point where they tell you to attach the extensions to the base, then several steps later tell you to remove the plastic tabs from the base so you can attach the extensions... which they already told you to attach. I had a piece that was just slightly too big for the slot it was supposed to go into. It wasn't until I was able to easily put an identical piece in the same spot on the opposite side that I was sure I had the right part. Attaching it to the wall was awful and where I gave up because it wasn't worth it. The gate can't be closed while you attach it to the wall so you're constantly fending it off as it swings around wildly due to the gate being so heavy. Again look at even the positive reviews, and even they will tell you what a pain this thing is. It really begs the question: why is this thing so highly rated?
I knew better than to ignore the negative reviews. I needed to get this gate installed for an immediate need. The span of 51.6” is a joke. DO NOT believe it. The gate was missing two essential pieces. I read in other reviews that they had to try to fit two plastic pieces together to add an extension but was like fitting a round peg in a square hole. The same happened to me. This would likely work fine for a smaller opening, but once you get to three extensions it really is a piece of junk. Shame on your company for selling this for a span it really shouldn’t be used.
This gate does not work as advertised for stairs unless you have wood to attach to on both sides, then it may work but I'm not even sure about that. I thought there was a clear lack of thinking that went into the design. The package arrived and it was obvious that the box had been opened but, we decided to give it a try anyway. We should have recognized that someone else obviously attempted (to give it a try) based on the box. Bad idea, lots of wasted time and frustration not to mention after all the effort, there were parts missing.
The color is nice and it feels sturdy but the gate arrives in about 15 pieces, and you need your own supplies including a measuring tape to double check the length of the pieces they give you. I had to remove certain rubber slots with a screwdriver (per their instructions) and nearly snapped the screwdriver in half, the slot never moved. The instructions are confusing as well.
As one reviewer had mentioned in 2017, this gate does NOT safely span 51". At that width, only the last couple of threads on the screws are holding this thing together. One slight push and it's going down. DO NOT PUT THIS AT THE TOP OF 51" WIDE STAIRS if you have infants and toddlers! They WILL be able to dislodge this gate!
Never has such a simple product (a gate) been so poorly designed that reading the instructions is like reading a foreign language book. The gate comes with a big space that supposedly locks into place when it’s properly installed. It assumes you have studs that perfectly align with your frame, too. So if you don’t, it’s impossible to properly install.
I’ve purchased some throw away items before, but I’ve never felt so compelled to write a negative review for one. My time would be better spent laying down in front of my stairs blocking my child from going down them. It is impossible to install, over-complicated and impractical design. Do not buy this gate.
In order to use the largest extension it required 4 connectors. It only comes with 2. The other 2 are fixed onto the small set of bars and cannot be removed I've wasted hours of my life trying to rig some thing up. Wasn't worth it. My three year old also learned to open it within days.
I'm sure the gate is just fine. I was actually pretty excited cause it looks to be made well. But if you order it "used" an it say good condition. It's most likely missing parts an bent. I was missing half the gate to make it functional. An the door was bent so bad I couldn't close it at all. I don't mind blemishes or imperfection but I couldn't use it it without the few pieces that where missing unfortunately.
