I have tested my aquarium, well water, and river water (Osage river in Missouri). I have compared this Ultimate brand readings to 7 other test brands I have. I have compared this Ultimate brand to samples of my well water which was tested by our health department and one sample at a university, for more parameters than our health department. The readings of this Ultimate Life 2O brand are all way off. These strips will not read minerals in any water. I have added chemicals and minerals to the samples and these strips will still not read them. Other expensive testing does read the differences when I alter the sample with additives. I test my test equipment.
I've never purchased this brand before so maybe it's a fluke. I always test new strips against the old ones and against an api master test kit. Old test strips tend to simply display less of any registered presence, ie. Copper or nitrates. Both my old strip and the api test kit registered under 25 ppm nitrates, but these test strips indicated no nitrates at all. As well as testing oddly low on ph compared to the other 2. I've thrown them and the money spent in the trash.
I bought this product for my fish tank. I found its result can be pretty misleading. Based on its result, I purchased a alkalinity/carbonate booster product. However, i noticed there was just no change in Carbonate hardness test color even though I kept adding more of carbonate booster to the tank. I got skeptical on its accuracy. Then I purchased a different test product also from Amazon trying to do a comparison. What a difference !. The new tester showed that the KH value already over the normal range. I further tested this bad 14in1 tester on tap water and some mixed water. The only 3 tests with a response are "total alkalinity", "PH", and "Total Hardness". There are completely no change of color in the rest 11 tests no matter what type of water was tested. Not sure whether the whole product is bad. But I can definitely say that the bottle I received is a defect.
Not sure of the rest, but I had 2 other methods to test nitrate...API kit and Tetra strip. Both told me my water was around 30. This test came back 0. Once you break seal, shelf life as listed on bottle is greatly reduced to only a couple months. I will not buy again.
Seeing as how I have used lots of different types of test strips for hot tubs skin care products tap water, etc. I find this one difficult to read. Mainly because the colors don’t match up very well with their picture on the bottle. Please listen to other reviewer‘s and do not buy this it will only frustrate you. I gave it three stars because I had read other reviews and I knew this going in. I was hoping that it wouldn’t be this bad. I am able to decipher it enough to make it work which is why am not returning it but I will be looking for another choice I gave it three stars because I had read other reviews and I knew this going in. I wish I would have tested these when they arrived. I would send them back in a hot minute!
Not being 100% accurate is the nature of the beast when dealing with test strips over a digital tester, or a master test kit with the vials etc. We know that. There are times, certain fish, projects, circumstances where you need/want very precise numbers. However there are times when you are good with getting a general idea. Test strips are good at what they do.
Just know these do NOTHING. All of a sudden all 7 of my tanks were EXACTLY the same?? I finally just tested my tap water. It came out like it came out of copy machine. It indicated NO CHLORINE. I have very heavily chlorinated city water that you can smell before you taste.
Every test is the same. It may be a batch or something but I am still disappointed 😞
I was able to test this compared to 2 other brands of test strips and a liquid test kit and found the water parameter readings were off, sometimes by a lot. I'm not sure if the metal readings are accurate, as I haven't had a way to compare those yet, but I definitely would NOT recommend these strips for testing nitrates and total hardness especially.
Never detects nitrates or nitrites. Useless since I didn't want to have to buy multiple products to test my RES aquarium water. Doesn't detect copper yet my turtle's shell has copper integrated into it. I need to have a professional well water test done to check for copper since it's obvious we have copper in our water.
The test reading above ph balance & PH Balance and the one beneath it were not reading properly. I have another ph balance test kit that works well. And the test strip for ph balance was reading 6.0. 2 tedt strips began bleeding as is it wanted to show 8.2. It has me questioning whether the rest of the strio were accurate. The rest of the strip looks as if it was the same every time but the top 3 were not consistent with their readings
