To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we do not use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Although it comes with a decently low price tag, it does everything required of it. Firstly it plays my region 1/2/3 dvds automatically without any need on my behalf to do anything. It plays my Blu-rays from both region A (USA) and region B (Europe), although it does require being set up to do so - requires setting up the region it plays prior to playing the actual Blu-ray, by pressing the appropriate key on the remote (pressing 1 = region A, pressing 2 = region B, pressing 3 = region C ). The player is compact, runs quietly and has full HD up-scaling. It apparently also has the ability to play mkv and xvid files (haven’t any to test that out). On the point of its ability to play subtitles, mentioned in earlier comments, although it doesn’t have an actual subtitle button, it does allow for the playing of subtitles, using the infomenu button and going to options (its a standard feature on most LG products), bearing in mind that subtitles are locked on some dvds/ Blu-rays. What it doesn’t do is things like wireless streaming or access the internet, but then I have a mobile to do those things, and I don’t need my Blu-ray player to do that. All in all it does what I need it to do, and at an affordable price.
The Blu Ray was easy to setup. Just plug into the mains and hook it via HDMI. The player comes with a A4 piece of paper that outlines the instructions on how to play non region 2 Blu Rays.
You can watch non region DVDs without having to do anything. I tested a non region DVD and it worked without any issues.
The player does come with a LCD display that shows the play time. You can view the play time while watching the film. Just press the 'info/menu' button on the remote control. You can also select the subtitle as well.
This brilliant player does everything you could want in one machine. I used to use two players, one for region 2 DVD's and the other for region 1 DVD's and Bluray. Now I have this amazing player that plays everything made in the world whatever the region for DVD or Bluray but also gives or upscales to a brilliant picture with equally excellent sound quality. This is the only player you will ever need and I could not be more pleased with mine.
When we first got this player we were so pleased that it did what it says. That was until we tried to turn it on the other day. At first a green light came on but no connection to the TV, then...nothing. Either the power cord went kaput or the player did. Either way, had it less than 2 months, used it very little and this? That's a very low quality product.
