In order to be less wasteful, I purchased some reusable silicone bags that are save for Sous Vide cooking. Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to get all the air out of them, so that's why I bought these. They work well at weighing down the silicone bags since there is still some air in them.
I put them in the bottom of the bag, with a pointed side down and then put the food inside and try to get as much air our as possible. They do a good job and they are easy to clean. I just put them in the silverware rack of my dishwasher and they wash just fine.
I haven't noticed any wear on them and I use them quite often. They don't affect the food in any way, and I haven't had to adjust cooking times at all.
These were a really great purchase, way better than any clips I've found, and the design is better than a lot of the other weights I've seen, in my opinion.
First, I want to start by saying that the pictures are a bit deceiving, but the product itself does what is intended to do.
Second, the way the weights are intended for use is to place them in the bag with your food. I placed each one in a separate vacuum sealed bag to protect the material of the silicone. Very much suggested when cooking proteins that produce a lot of oils or fats. It is much easier to clean the vacuum sealed bag or replace it. Also, these weights are very much needed for things that are light, such as vegetables.
Third, these are great if you use ziploc bags and use the water displacement method. It helps bring the bag down to displace the air.
I like this product very much that i will purchase another set when cooking a lot of food that I need to use several bags.
Ever since I've gotten my sous vide circulator, I've been sous vide-ing everything...my first purchase of weights to prevent sous vide items from floating were round cylinders, but, there was a problem. While the round ones worked, they were constantly rolling off the item being cooked, then my nice steak or whatever would be a floaty. Then I found these triangular weights, these are awesome, no more rolling off my stuff cooking, they have a super nice finish as well, just dry them with a towel drop them in the drawer until next time. Buy these, you will like them. 🙂
I use my sous vide once a week or so. I have had problems finding ways to keep my bags from floating and I had tried all the usual methods of submerging those bags, including a few of my own tricks. They worked pretty well, but these things really helped me submerge bags better. They are WAAAAYYYYY overpriced, but they work as advertised. Seriously, if they cut the price by 50% they would still be slightly expensive for what they are. Pop them in the dishwasher when you are finished and they come out clean.
I do a lot of sous vide cooking. There is a strong need for sinkers like this to keep the bags submerged. These work great and clean up easily. But why the heck are they triangular? The shape is a little awkward when placing in the bag. Round seems like it would be more efficient use of maximum metal weight and minimum coating … and round won’t puncture bag. Even a flattish rectangle seems better. Anyway ……..
Got sick of keeping the sous vide floaters down with a hodge podge of clips and weights that rust. These are great. I put one in the bag and use my seal-a-meal. If food is already "shrunk" you can put one of these in a zip lock. get the air out, and clip it to the food pouch. Solid weight. Nothing floats with these babies.
Product is as it should be. Weighs down my steaks so that they won't float and get an uneven cook. Took a star off because the packaging was opened... Not sure why but it was opened already and one of the weights was kind of just "floating" around in the shipping bag. Nevertheless, product does what it is supposed to and it's a bright kind of color. Don't really care about the color so.... Great product! If I lose any of the weights I will definitely be buying this again. Hopefully if I have to buy this again it will come unopened next time...
These are smaller than I anticipated, but they work great. I needed just one to weigh down a New York Strip steak sealed in a ziplock bag. I did not have to readjust the weight during the cooking process as I have using other items to weigh down food. I believe the 3 weights together would work great with large roasts and large quantities of food. So glad I found these.
