Really love the idea of this and I think it mostly works. However when I received this there was string attached to the top in a loop (great idea) but this small piece of metal in the top/roof of the house. I know my hamster will chew through the string and then the piece of metal would become lose and could be a potential choking hazard.
Also there is thick industrial white glue holding the stand on which I'm not convinced is hamster safe. So I've used the string to tie it over the glue. I'll also bury that part in bedding. Hopefully my hamster won't get to it but if he does I'll be able to tell as he'll have to nibble through the straw first. If needed I'll try and remove the stand but I think it could end up rolling over. Maybe it would stay up in lots of bedding.
The actual coconut part is great, a great size. Just a few things need tweaking to make sure it's definitely safe!
The item came with the base unattached. I don’t have any strong glue to glue it back. I put it in the cage without the base, but my hamster doesn’t want to go inside. Maybe because it’s wobbly when he tires to climb on it. I put some cotton balls (he loves cotton balls) inside to make it more cozy, but it didn’t help to catch his interest. Not worth $10.
It could look more like a coconuts outer shell no texture is smooth brown plastic. He's in and out of it. I put a latter I had and now he likes to go up and down. Same with inside just smooth plastic. I thought it would be made out of wood so he could chew it. Thanks.
However I have no idea why the glue work is so terrible that both my first order and my replacement order are detached from the base stand... (Which is the one star for sturdiness)
I am not going to replace for another one as I’m expecting that no matter how many more times I ask for a replacement, the coconut will just always detached from the base. Just pretty disappointed when I ask for a replacement and it’s still not one piece. Or am I just so so so UNLUCKY.
I guess I just have to find a way to glue them together when I don’t have a glue gun 🧐
The inside should have some sort of padding my dwarf hamster would not go into a lot once I put a padding in it he’s in to all the time. I can say the he is not biting and making holes in it. Sturdiness is A-1
My daughters hamster loves his new coconut hut. The only thing is, I don’t like is the base is connected with a thick layer of glue. The hamster hasn’t started to chew on it which is good. But if he does I’ll remove it.
this product is absolutely adorable but for me it came damaged. i was able to fix it with some hot glue and my hamster loves it so much. hopefully it was just damaged from the delivery process. i still recommend!
