I have a Food Saver hand held vacuum with bags, bought one of these as a cheaper alternative, with the vacuum pump as a backup. It works, but the power button is very flimsy and wobbly and sometimes gets stuck in the 'on' position, requiring some jiggling to turn back off.
I ordered a second one for my girlfriend, but the vacuum pump with that unit is DOA, even after charging overnight. The power button is much more positive than the first unit, too bad it doesn't work at all.
Although the bags seem good (have used about a dozen of them for both freezing and sous vide), given my bad experience with 2 vacuum pumps I would not recommend this product.
I purchased these bags/vacuum for a Sous Vide unit I had recently purchased. I didn't use until 3 months after receiving. The bags seem of high quality; however, I could not get the vacuum pump to work. It arrived in 3 pieces so assumed I had to assemble. There was no way that the silicone part would fit on the unit. At closer look, it appears that the area with the red arrow is broken. I searched YouTube and Googled instructions and all videos showed it as one complete unit. Since I'm past the return period, I'm stuck with the bags but cannot use the vacuum. I purchased another vacuum unit locally but it does not work on the bags. If you purchase this unit, be aware if it arrives in 3 separate pieces (a plastic adapter was also included but there is no picture to share - it fits inside the silicone part. I only gave 2 stars because the bags are nice but the vacuum is unusable.
But the pump doesn’t work. I can’t find anyway to contact the seller so i am hoping this review might get them to contact me. This is the first time I tried to use my pump and it didn’t work. I thought it needed charging so i charged it. Still nothing. Grrr. And then I can find no way of contacting seller. The bags themselves might be worth the cost. Then just plan on finding another vacuum (if there is such a thing. I haven’t looked yet).I don’t know how the seller can have such a good rating.
I think I do everything properly....put in food, seal it up right, remove all the air pockets. My problem is the bags fill with water during the sous vide process. I've tried different methods, including keeping the seal tab out of the water while cooking, but really that shouldn't occur. The bag is supposed to be submerged and when it is, at the end of the cooking cycle the bag is full of water that shouldn't be there. I could have easily have just boiled or cooked the food in hot water than use sous vide. My guess is that the valve that allows the air to be removed leaks easily and the vacuum inside the bag pulls in water from outside.
This works pretty well if the vacuum sealer actually held up - it takes a bit to get used to how to position the sealer and the bag to get it to seal properly, but this worked great for sous vide until the usb port for the sealer where you connect the charging cord broke off. Pretty cheaply made and I read other reviews where it had the same problem so I decided not to issue a replacement and am buying a different brand to try. I really wanted to use this for the re-usable bags as I have another larger food sealer but know that it's not very environmentally friendly with the use of the plastic sheets.
I was hoping to contact the seller directly before leaving a negative review, but that wasn't an option. So here we go: I sous vide and freeze stuff ALL THE TIME! It's been a game changer in the way I run my personal kitchen. I feel in love with the technique of sous vide in a white linen upscale restaurant I apprenticed for years ago. As a private, personal chef, it makes cooking for a large crowd very easy to make things a precise temperature. My ONLY major complaint about this product is that my rechargeable vacuum sealer failed after a couple months. That's pretty crucial to this system. You can try to get as much air out as possible by hand, but there's no way to get it air tight without the vacuum. The light goes from red to green as though it has fully charged, but when I go to use it, it doesn't work at all. For that reason, and that reason alone, I can't give this a high rating. If the seller replaces the unit, I will let you know and revise my review/ rating.
*UPDATE* So I am sending the defective one back to them, but the company had already sent me another whole package and this one works good. My first order was probably a defective one. • • • Just got this today. Came home and attempted to charge the vacuum sealer, it was wobbly when it was in the port and there was no light. So I pulled it back out to try again and the whole port came out! I didn’t even use it once. Everyone’s reviews looked good. Maybe I just got a defective one? But I’m returning this. So disappointed. Plus, the instructions had grammar errors. Either I got a defective one or I got a generic one.
I liked this product but the suction is barely there anymore and of course it happens right when my return window has passed. Had high hopes for this product but the quality of the vacuum is cheap O- weep O. Would not purchase again especially since I’ve only had it for a month or so and used it probably a total of 5 times only.
Pump wasn't working when I tried to seal a bag. Went to charge it and the charging light turned on. After a couple hours, I try using it again. Nothing. Overall I like this product and think it's effective but I wish there was a way to diagnose what's going on with the pump.
