To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we do not use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
So, I read all the reviews and wondered how on earth they could be so disparate. I mean, big time. There aren't many in the middle. People love them or think they are absolutely useless.
I figured there had to be a reason. I decided to go ahead and try them and see how it went. I can always return, right?
They work great. If you follow directions. The little line in the corner of the bag that says not to fill beyond it? They aren't playin. If you fill beyond that, you mess up the suction.
Those little slides they give you to help seal the bag? They're there for a real reason. Use them. I thought I had one sealed, but it wasn't shrinking. I double checked it. Still nothing. Then I used the slide. Turns out, I didn't seal it as well as I thought. It worked fine.
I actually have gone a little bonkers. I've used 98% of the bags included, and I haven't even touched my freezer. I got on here to order more bags, then thought I should probably write a review!
As of right now, I would absolutely purchase again (I know, obvious since I'm buying more bags!). If I find they don't maintain their seal, I'll update.
Update: anything that ripens or emits a gas doesn't do great. Don't put bananas in one! I also had fresh green beans, already washed and cleaned, blow the seal. It works great on cheeses, things like pepperoni, butter (keeps it from absorbing all the fridge smells!!), etc. Not great with things with moisture - the moisture gets sucked into the pump.
I'm super happy with my decision to purchase this sealer compared to the other, BIGGER, ones on the market. My husband catches a lot of fish so instead of filling my freezer with ziplock bags full of water to keep the fish fresh, I sealed all the fillets with the little gadget & have so much more room now! Which also, cuts down on the thawing time since there is no ice block to melt. It's lightweight, yet powerful. Its easy to clean & charges well. It comes with some many bags & they are even reusable! I should be set for awhile! Highly recommend!
This is a review for the KOSBON 47 PCS Electric Vacuum Sealer & Reusable Vacuum Food Storage Bags, purchased August 2020.
Updated one year after purchase. Rating downgraded from 4 to 3 stars. I was using the vacuum pump with the charging cable attached and I inadvertently applied a little pressure to the cable where it connects to the pump. This slight pressure was sufficient to break the cable housing inside the pump, rendering the unit useless. Granted, this damage could have been avoided if I had removed the cable before use. Nevertheless, I believe that the pump should be more robust.
I have had the product for only a few days so I cannot offer any long-term view. The product arrived complete, on time and as advertised. I charged the pump using the provided cable connected to a computer USB port. I tested the system using a small bag and the last inch of a home-baked loaf of bread. The pump worked as expected, it was easy to position the pump over the air-valve for the few seconds required to remove the air. The attached photos show the result two days after sealing. The pump was able to create sufficient vacuum to almost flatten the bread; and the air-valve held the seal well for the two days; so I am satisfied that the product is working as expected. There are many bags and spare air-valves in the set so I expect to get good use in the coming years for storage of different foods. A few minor points which detract from my complete satisfaction. 1. The set does not include a power adapter...... Be aware that, for charging, you will need to connect to an existing USB port (such as on your computer or mobile phone charger). 2. The charging port is deeply recessed in the body of the pump. So a standard USB cable will not fit ... do not lose the charging cable supplied with the set. 3. The instruction sheet has many horrendous typos. This does not affect the product functionality; but it does lead me to question the quality control used by the supplier.
I love this! At last no more wasting groceries that go badly because of not being able to seal them and hold their freshness. I love the fact that I can wash the bags and reuse them, such a money saver in so many ways!
Initially I had planned to buy a Foodsaver, but the seller let me down, so back to square 1. This handheld vacuum sealer looks more like a toy than a serious kitchen tool. It was really the videos that convinced me to give it a try. I've only had it a short time, and I'm already looking to buy more bags, because I can see using this on a daily basis for keeping produce fresh and for freezing. I often forget about produce and end up having to throw it out, so this will mean less waste and more money saved.
I've already used it to sous vide a steak, but I forgot to take a pic. Even so, these pics of broccoli (cooked), mushrooms, pecans, and tomatoes show how tight the vacuum sealing is. They look positively shrink-wrapped, don'tcha think?
Cons: The only shortcoming I've found is that you can't use it for anything wet, because the vacuum pump will suck up the liquid. For wet stuff, just dunk the bag into a container of water up to the zipper lock, which squeezes out the air, and then zip. I also wish the kit came with some sandwich-sized bags.
Pros: Less than half the cost of a "traditional" vacuum sealer, reusable bags, compact size, rechargable, quiet operation, extremely easy to use. You don't even have to hold on to it while it's vacuuming!
