***OnePlus is throttling performance in the most used apps***
I've been a OP user for several years. I was waiting for the OP9 model new cameras, as this has been traditionally the "compromise" on previous models.
I've read about the battery & heat issues reported by several users at product launch. But it seems that was already addressed by recent updates. So I decide to buy it.
Unfortunately OP has resorted to throttling apps to tackle these battery/heat issues. IMO, this is just not acceptable. Pls google "OnePlus throttling" and you'll find a tons of reports of this.
According to the news, this throttling affects not just Chrome, but all the apps that I use for work. I couldn't believe it. So I run a test against OP5T. The results are staggering. The OP9 is way more sluggish than a 4 years old model. See the attached pictures with the benchmark results.
So if you buy for the performance of the Snapdragon 888, you'll not get it (as of time of this review). If you can live with that, you'll getting a great screen and good camera package. Who knows, they may be do another FW upgrade and give the user the option to "performance" or "battery"
Camera hardly works always over heating. The thumb reader hardly works reset it 4 times. The bluetooth gives me a hard time. This phone frustrates me big-time. I had the OnePlus 7 pro was a great phone but this one. Meh
The first time I ordered, the phone arrived in good condition. I plugged it in to the 65 'Warp' charger while loading my android account from my previous OnePlus 6t (which has been great to me for 3+ years now). Instead of charging, the phone got extremely hot and drained 2% battery every 2 to 3 minutes. It went from 20% down to 14% while updating. I plugged it into my old OnePlus 6t charger and it trickle charged while it loaded.
I ended up ordering two more off-brand OnePlus 9 65W Warp chargers. None of them worked. Either the phone drained while plugged in, or it said it was "warp charging" and stayed at that battery level without going up or down. I tried different cords, different outlets, factory and hard resets, everything.
The only thing that succeeded in rapidly charging was my 10,000mah portable power bank I have for emergencies. It could get me up to 1,700mah. I do not want to drain my portable power bank to charge the phone, then charge the power bank, then drain it again to charge my phone, then charge the power bank, etc ------ that's ridiculous.
I ended up returning the phone because if this phone doesn't warp charge as advertised, what is the point? The rest of the features (which all worked fine), are not justifiable at this price point. The camera has no optical image stabilization (OIS), and is just "ok" in terms of image quality. Screen response time seemed a little sluggish. Battery charging issues aside, the battery life was quite solid. Qi wireless charging worked just fine. I won't go into detail on the major issues OnePlus is having with their ColorOS and bugs related to Android apps, but I did run into a few in the short time I had this phone.
Against my better judgement, I decided to order another one thinking maybe I got lemon. I opened the box with anticipation only to find out Amazon sent me the CHINESE VERSION of the phone this time around even though this amazon page is clearly for the NORTH AMERICAN VERSION. It actually warp charges (of course), but It doesn't fit in my U.S. version case AND the Chinese version does NOT have wireless charging (which is a deal breaker). I am returning it after wasting hours of time and not trying a 3rd time with this model.
So I bought this phone thinking I was going to try something new other than Samsung. I was excited about receiving it and read nothing but good reviews. Once I received the phone I noticed that it didn't respond to touch the way it should and the signal was terrible. I've had several friends including my office tried to call me and tell me that the phone won't even ring or go to my voicemail. Phone doesn't give me the notifications like I'm supposed to be receiving. Unfortunately I'm going to have to return the phone. I'd Rather have a renewed Samsung from a year ago. The one pro I will give to this phone, the fingerprint recognition is lightning fast and Samsung could learn a thing or two from them.
I was looking forward to this flagship phone, but now I'm just disappointed with it. I bought my first one on September 28th and after using it for two days bluetooth stopped working. Connecting all my bluetooth headsets is getting noise. I had replaced a new phone on October 4.
It only takes half a day for the battery to die. The only good thing about it is that it charges quickly, and that's the only thing that adds a star.
I was most disappointed by its wireless charging. Every time I use wireless charging in the car, the phone will sound an alarm and the temperature reaches over 115 degrees. This is really scary and I have to switch to a cable.
Additional, it's really scary and then it explodes. Don't charge it wirelessly. Take a look at my screenshots, it show out everytime i using that charge, so sad
Bought the phone because of OnePlus reputation for phones with almost native Android, the warp charger and wireless charging. But it did not charge wirelessly despite the claim on the Amazon listing It's confusing since OnePlus makes this phone with and without wireless charging depending on the market and the US is one with wireless charging.
The model with wireless charging is LE2115 which is displayed when you go into the phone settings. But the stickers on the outside said LE2110 which the model without wireless charging. It's almost like somebody flashed the LE2115 ROM on a LE2110 phone except the phone came in what looked like genuine OnePlus retail packing with stickers, screen protector and case.
Because the phone charges so quickly and not sure if another would be the same decided to keep the phone but Amazon gave me a $120 credit for the incorrect information on the listing.
The company does not care about it's users anymore, my OnePlus 9 pro is very slow, restarts on its own and just full of annoying glitches from time to time, even with full bar 5g service and wifi. They scammed everyone here by selling unfinished products and are already about to release newer phones come January, what a load of crap! Returning and getting a Samsung.
