To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we do not use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I'm not a gamer - let's get that out there right off the bat. I have no idea if this laptop would suit gamers, but as a teacher who uses MS Office, Google Apps for education, and Zoom extensively, this laptop is great. I also use a few molecular modelling and other memory-intensive science apps and have found no issues at all using this device. The display is vibrant and touchscreen is sensitive but not overly so. The touchpad was easy to adapt to (I am primarily a mouse guy) and is a very convenient size. Overall, I really like this machine and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good all-around laptop at a respectable price.
I just received the laptop yesterday so I am only reviewing what I have seen up to this point. Be aware that a lot of the features listed on this Amazon listing are FALSE. - RAM is 8GB, NOT 12 GB (says 8GB in the listing title but 12 GB under Product Information) - SSD is 512, NOT 256 -There is NO fingerprint scanner (despite the video in the listing saying that there is. But if you look at the other images, there isn't a finger print scanner. Very inconsistent) -The inside of the laptop is BLACK, NOT silver
Not all of these are negatives; I like black better, I didn't want a fingerprint scanner, and 512 SSD is definitely better than 256. However, the 8GB instead of 12 GB is a let down for me. Its disappointing that I spent days comparing laptop specs to ensure I got exactly what I wanted, and to find out I was comparing incorrect information. Amazon, HP.... You need to do better. Side note, the listing and the box for the laptop say its 14-dw1024nr but under computer properties, it -says 14-dw1xxx. I was wondering if this is why there are inconsistencies: its not the same laptop as advertised. Maybe I'm wrong, just a theory.
BATTERY LIFE Battery life is a significant improvement from my previous device (Microsoft Surface Go). I haven't payed too much attention to how long I get for battery use, but I will update my review and include that information later on. KEYBOARD Keyboard has a nice feel to it. My only issue is that when typing, if you rest your palms too heavily on the laptop to type, it causes the cursor to move to usually the beginning of your sentence so when you type, your words go to the wrong place. This is very frustrating as it makes typing take longer and its tedious having to go back and correct my typing over and over again. MOUSEPAD Mousepad is fine. My only issue is that right-clicking isn't the most responsive and can be a little frustrating having to push down harder on the mousepad to get a right-click to work. DISPLAY This brightness at 100% was nowhere near as bright as my Surface Go. This is honestly disappointing to me. The screen is fine until you want to watch Netflix and its a night scene with mostly dark scenes. Its harder than usual to make out the scene. Other than that, the screen is okay. Not bad. SPEED The laptop is much faster than my Surface Go, so I'm very pleased with the speed. STYLUS A stylus is not included. I have my stylus from my Surface Go and it works well with this laptop. No issues. I'll include a picture of my doodles with it. This is an important feature for me because I'm a college student and need to be able to take and submit my written digital notes. Can't complain. HEATING Something I noticed immediately upon setting up and using the laptop is the fact that it heats up very fast. It gets hot quickly but it also cools itself down quickly. But again, it gets hot quickly so the fan is on and off and on and off. House temp is 73 degrees.
Overall, its not a bad laptop. The fact that the information in the listing is incorrect is very disappointing and is why I deducted 1 star from an otherwise, in my opinion, 5-star laptop. I think the battery life could be better and the overheating isn't great but they are both very manageable. I am very satisfied with the laptop. Just be aware of what you're buying!
Perfect for what I need, except for the poor webcam, so only 4 stars. The screen is very nice, excellent colors and bright. This computer arrived in perfect condition, and setup was simple, and without any problems. Wifi works beautifully, and very fast. I really like the simplicity of Windows 11, and think it's the best OS yet. The only issue I have is the webcam quality, very grainy video and pictures, but I'll just but an external webcam to use for Zoom meetings and other things. The price is perfect for my budget, and think this laptop is a very good value for what it is.
I do not regret buying it but to me having had it now for maybe 2 months and the white letters on the keyboard are beginning to already seem to fade away is not a good thing. I predict in another 6 months I would have to then add an external keyboard to this so I can use it and see the keys. HP you can do better than this, I expect this from an Acer not an HP.
I purchased this for my daugther, a rising college freshman. Based on the specs of a Pavilion 360 we researched, we believed this to be a good fit for her needs. We purchased with confidence and assurance from the Amazon description. I read the Q/A section and felt reassured this was a good buy. Unfortunately I did not do a deep dive into the reviews (esp the 2/4 star ratings) as I should have. Now that it has arrived and I have completed the unboxing, I realize that this product is slightly different than I expected.
Shipping and Packaging: Because of our location, shipping was quick and painless. We ordered on a Friday evening and received the product the very next day.
Packaging was spectacular. No excess packaging, zero damage.
Shortfalls: This is built different than other HP Pavilions of the same model number. The first clue that let me know something was off from what I saw on the Amazon page is the color is different. The case is silver, but the keyboard on the inside is black. - NO fingerprint scanner - NO backlit keyboard
Audio and Screen Audio is as good as to be expected for such a compact, lightweight item Screen resolution is remarkable for a touchscreen device
I will update this review as we dig deeper into using the device over the coming day.
UPDATE: several days have passed. My daughter has had time to really put this laptop through it's paces. Battery life: remarkable Camera: outstanding for zoom video calls Audio: absolutely immersive and crisp. The speaker location is ideal Speed: with a solid state drive, boot times are very snappy
The lack of a fingerprint scanner and backlit keyboard were not showstoppers or deal breakers. Both turned out to be inconveniences that were easy to navigate around and quickly adopt to.
