I nearly didn't buy this tripod...even though I have never had an issue with Manfrotto tripods before because of the negative comments about the locking of the ball head.

All I can say is these reviews have received faulty units...

As my images show I tried the head lock on some heavy Nikons and lenses and it held rock solid...the F2 and telephoto ways in just shy of 2kg and I felt sure I could have gone higher!

Maybe the QC has become a bit iffy as these units are made in China for Manfrotto but I read an article where the lock tension can be adjusted by removing the legs to expose the ball tension setting screws below.

I was also suitably impressed by the use of mixed materials with the legs operating beautifully....including the handy low angle height mode.

All in all this is a magnificent tripod...and iff you get a duff one either adjust it or simply return for one that has been set up perfectly...fortunately mine was....

Manfrotto PIXI EVO 2-Section Mini Tripod - Black

Firstly, I received the mini tripod safely and promptly. I was always on the lookout for a mini tripod for one reason, How many times have you just decided to do maybe a few street photography photos or even a few snap shots of the family and hadn’t intended to bring the main tripod, when all of a sudden you see a lovely Landscape Image you could have had with a Long Exposure or even a Macro shot. The only problem is that most of the mini tripods couldn’t even carry the weight of a DSLR and a decent size lens. I have found one at last.
I love to take images low to the ground with long exposures especially on stones with water nearby to give that 3D effect “you know what I mean”.
Now For The Weight Facts.
Nikon D810 DSLR = 980g “ 2lb 2.6oz”
Nikon MB-D12 Battery Grip “300g”
Also RRS L-Bracket
Tamron 15-30mm Wide Angle Lens “1.1kg”
Also 2 batteries Weight

Now all of the above was supported by this little tripod with 2 different leg angles, “lowest being the more stable”. I will be honest, this is one of my heaviest lenses apart from the 70-200 which I wouldn’t use, you also must make sure that things are tight but not to the point of breaking. I would easily use the above weights on the mini tripod if I was caught without the big tripod and this is great for just throwing in the bag. So this makes the 24-70mm a no brainer to use.
I hope this review helps you make up your mind in this product but even if you never use it, it’s still one of those items “that’s its better to have than not”.

1.0 out of 5 stars Utterly disappointing.

Thank God I didn't pay full price for this piece of junk. When it arrived I have to say I was surprised by the poor build quality of this tripod. It just screams cheap and nasty! I genuinely expected a manfrotto branded product to be much better than this. I can't see it lasting long as the plastic used for 90% of it's construction is thin, brittle and well....cheap. I will definitely not be putting anything heavier than a compact on it.

WAIT IT JUST GOT WORSE....

I can't believe what I've just found while writing this review!! The tripod wasn't sitting right and it was frustrating me as to why. Then I discovered a random screw has been trapped between the two halves of the casing on one of the legs!!! (See photos). This must have happened during assembly as it was seriously wedged in there. I've now taken the leg apart to liberate the random stow away but the plastic casing has taken a set, so now the rubber foot keeps dropping out. What a piece of c**p. I will be sending this back for a refund.

Utterly disappointing.
